Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Interacting with staff. Had a flu and the Clinic Nurse was so helpful. I witnessed firsthand in the breakfast how the hotel treats their own staff very well. It tells why they are so friendly and motivated. Keep it up. Guys, if you need a place to clear off your mind. Ashnil Aruba is the place to be. No doubt.

United KingdomAlthough the buffet food was OK there could have been more variety. At lunch there were lots of flies around (not their fault). We felt they could have provided better cover than cling film - just a suggestion!
Great location in Tsavo East. Our tent was really comfortable and had views over the park. Quiet spot. Swimming pool was great for a cooling dip and lounge area relaxing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our game drives with Tony were amazing. Breakfast was good.

Nice lodge, nice cottages, good food, helpful staff. Good location in the middle of the southern sector of the park.

United KingdomNo real entertainment facilities in the hotel in terms of tv, music, board games, etc to keep guests engaged. Also the spa facilities were closed.
Location is perfect for seeing games on drives as well as from your room or hotel's common areas. Beds were comfortable. Rooms had good facilities. Staff was excellent all around and they accommodated all our requests. Our driver was polite, punctual and knowledgeable - we got really good sightings with him on game drives.

KenyaFood wise, I found some veggies a little bit undercooked and bland. I was really disappointed about the pannacotta desert: it was just whipped cream with a red sweet topping, which is absolutely not pannacotta (=cooked cream, literally in Italian). There is room for improvement in the baking area too. In the room I felt that the mattress was a bit weird, maybe to hard maybe, to "springy". I can't really tell what was uncomfortable.
The kindness of the staff is remarkable. I got in touch with Ashnil before the stay to enquire about the prices for game drives. The price was expressed per person and for a shared Landcruiser. At arrival we booked the afternoon game drive. Shortly before we started the game drive, we were told that we had to pay the double of the price, as we were using the Landcruiser alone. A minimum of 4 people was required for the prices we were told in advance. Unfortunately this was not mentioned in the e-mail. We could clarify it with the Lodge Manager and we finally paid the price stated in the e-mail. The breakfast buffet is amazing: a lot of choice, with fresh ingredients and self-made bread.

United StatesWe purchased the meals (other than breakfast) separately. This lead to some uncertainty, but allowed us to avoid paying the $25 per meal for our 4 year-old son, so a children's option for meals would have been a plus. they ought to put door closers or silencers on the exterior doors to the rooms. The doors slam in the wind and are very loud when they do.
we enjoyed being out in the savanah, and coming back to a comfortable room and good food. We enjoyed sitting by the fire at night, especially on the evening when we ran into another family from our son's school.

United StatesThere was a lot that we did not to like about the property. To start with we did not find the staff very friendly in general which was a big difference from a similar resort in a national park where we stayed the night before. The only food available was the buffet which was limited in selections and was of average quality. I would compare the buffet to many of the two and three star hotels I have stayed at in Kenya over the last seven years. The biggest difference is at this resort they did not have a menu you could order off of if you did not want the full buffet menu. During check-in we were not told by the reception staff of the coffee and tea service with cookies and cake that was set-up daily at 3:30 outside the bar area. We checked in around 2:30 (after the buffet had officially closed) and only saw this service mentioned in the guide for the resort in our room. There were literally thousands of crickets all across the resort property to include on the buffet line (the staff draped the buffet line with mosquito type netting to keep the crickets off the food) and in the dining room. It seems this is an annual occurrence so I would have thought there would be some better solution to keep the crickets away/out of the dining area. WiFi is only available in the dining room and bar area of the hotel and it is a very poor quality connection. This was a pretty major inconvenience since the bar area is quite small and you are only allowed to be in dining room at meal times. Again for a "four-star" resort this low level of Wi-Fi service seems to be inconsistent with other hotels in Kenya where we have travelled.
The location was the best part about staying at this lodge. You are at a central location in the national park to go on the various game drive routes. We also had two fans in our room which was a huge help dealing with the high temperatures at this time of the year. The shower in the bathroom was very nice and the beds were comfortable. We were allowed to access the breakfast buffet earlier than the posted hours to accommodate our early departure from the property.
