Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Bella Nilaveli Beach is a beautiful oasis only a few minutes walk from the beach. The pool was fantastic and their restaurant served up great meals. There were also a number of small restaurants close by. The staff were very friendly and always on hand to help out with anything you needed.

Wonderful property just a minutes walk from the beach! Staff were very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. Room was spacious with a pool side terrace. Fantastic location for all kinds of beach and sight seeing. Tuk tuk tour to Trincomalee was excellent. Brilliant guide and tailored it to suite our family. Snorkelling trip to Pigeon Island was a highlight of our entire trip! Wonderful pool with bar. Ate there one night and the food was traditional and very tasty. Close proximity to beach bars and restaurants

SloveniaIt would be better if there was also a mosquito repellent in the room besides mosquito nets. Options for dinner and lunch were very limited most of the time.
Everything, breakfast was amazing, the pool was big and clean, it is very close to the beach. The manager Anjay was really nice.

MaltaThe food and juices were all incredible and the eggplant pasta in particular was one of the best meals I've had in a while! The staff were so friendly and accomodating and the manager always went out of his way to get us what we needed. It had the most adorable and friendly resident cats and a rly nice pool to lay by. I really enjoyed my stay there, felt very relaxed and pampered and would definitely return if I visit the area again.

United Kingdom- Quite a lot of bugs and some mozzies in the room. Not the worst thing unless you have a big issue with bugs/insects
- Staff were really friendly and helpful - Food was great, got pasta and noodles which were both delicious! - Plants and nature around the grounds were really lush and pretty - beach 2 mins away, was almost empty when we went which was nice - Dogs and cats chilling around the grounds, the owners have a few and they are very cute :)

AustraliaA kaleidoscope of colour and fragrant aromas. Basil showers in the wind - lime trees with the gentle sway and shade of the coconuts. Constant entertainment watching the resident crows, dog and cats run the show. Breakfast feasts and local flavours fill the air. Regular dips in the pool - quiet reflection and appreciation. Fabulous people - cooking, cleaning, watering, helping - all with a smile and twinkle of the eye. Thank you all the team at Bella Niavelli - thanks for the chats and laughs Amjee and Sameera

United KingdomWe absolutely loved our stay in Nilaveli! The hotel’s gardens are lush and green with so many butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies. The beach is so close and we went every morning to swim in the sea before breakfast at sunrise. The place has a really chill vibe and the pool is so nice, with lots of shade if you want to hide from the sun during the day. The food is also great!

United KingdomThe property was great to be honest…perhaps one more light in the room would help. A water butt would be useful too if possible. And the pool was nice but getting cleaned at an awkward time one morning when we would like to swim; perhaps this can be shared at the start so there are clear swimming times. Love to see them cleaning it though!
Beautiful setting - lush green garden with lots of trees and plants and fruits - we would have loved a tour! The restaurant was good and the staff were so friendly; Ajmi helped so much and always with a smile. The rooms had decent sturdy nets with zips to enter although a couple had small holes in, one was pristine. Decent AC too. Nice bathroom and outdoor shower was lovely, great pressure and warmth. A stones throw from the beach which is very cool! Pool and loungers too.

GermanyThe beach was definitely better (cleaner) than Trincomalee or Negombo beach, but finally it's just a beach. :)
Just upon arrival a yoga lesson started which was really great to participate at. We met the owners of the hotel and had a great hangout at night. All the stuff was very friendly and we enjoyed our stay (to relax and take a break after visiting the golden triangle). We also had dinner several times and I would say that I had the best fish in my life, it was very delicious!

NetherlandsEverything was fantastic, the room was very cute and clean, great view on the garden and pool from our little terrace. The property is very well maintained, the pool was clean and was a lovely alternative to taking a swim in the crystal clear waters at the beach. We had a great breakfast every day of our trip and also had several other meals at Leo’s cafe since the food was delicious. The property also has 2 double beach beds which are perfect for a nap. The whole staff and owners were very friendly and welcoming, and the manager was so helpful with everything, he planned our snorkeling trip to pigeon island and a sightseeing trip of Trincomalee at very good prices. They also have a friendly dog and a few cats we enjoyed the company of. Highly recommend!

United StatesThey do not use single use plastic which is a major positive, however they charge for any filtered water you may need which was a minus. There was a bathroom issue in my room upon arrival & was fixed immediately to the best of their ability - an open air bathroom or ventilation would suffice. Shower water pressure low, hot water was not there but it is sweltering outside, so not needed.
Small, charming, quiet property, grounds well maintained. Owner, manager & staff are all friendly & welcoming. Situated just steps from the beach, location was perfect, the main road within walking distance, minor tuk tuk ride to restaurants. Great local family restaurant in town called Nila Rice & Curry to check out. Room was quaint, simple, clean & tidy, aircon was ok. Mini fridge & hand soap provided. My outside patio was a delight. Breakfast was excellent each morning, a mix between Sri Lankan & western to satisfy you throughout the day. There’s an on-site restaurant, the property pool inviting. Resident cats & dog were endearing. Beautifully relaxing & private stay, safe & comfortable, caring staff. 100m from the quiet beach with friendly locals in town. I enjoyed staying here very much - a charming oasis in Nilaveli, I can recommend this accommodation & I would return :)
