Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenWe couldn't eat in the restaurant because we didn't have long pants. (men) But then again, that is part of the old world charm that they keep certain standards. We found plenty of places to eat in town so it wasn't really a problem.
We chose to stay here for the historic feeling and because they had twin rooms. It's a lovely place. Wonderful breakfast. The beds were comfortable and the hot water bottle was cozy. Very good service and a special care from our room boy. Garden was beautiful!

Lovely colonial hotel. Warm comfortable rooms and walking distance to town. This hotel is full of character. Pack your Sunday best for after 7pm as you’re required to dress up for dinner and the bar (men can borrow a jacket and tie). It’s all part of the charm of the hotel. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Would definitely recommend for your stay in Nuwara Eliya.

Incredible experience in Nuwara Eliya! Good location and just nearby the famous Grand Hotel and Victoria Park and has a path to visit. Hill Club is a historical building and worth you spend one-hour to walk around and insight. Room is comfortable, breakfast is good, price-performance ratio is better than Grand Hotel as you can spend high tea and visit the garden there from Hill Club. Staff is kind and helpful. Highly Recommended!

United StatesIt’s a little old and outdated but heck, it’s an old English club and that’s what makes it so fun and charming.
The grounds are spectacular. The staff is excellent. The location is fabulous.

United KingdomIt’s a little jaded if you’re expectation is 5* but maybe that’s because it’s supposed to be. WiFi keeps tripping out required login each time. Cream tea not great but worth doing. Reading room needs the fire to be lit and dress code relaxed to enable it to be used by more residents.
Wonderful old colonial hotel, staff are super friendly and attentive. Fire in the dining room and hot water bottles in your bed. Lovely historic artifacts around every corner and some amazing books in the reading room.

United KingdomService and taxes are added to all costs, including drinks at the bar, which could have been made clearer on the menu.
Visiting the Hill Club is like stepping back in time. It’s part hotel, part museum, and gives a real flavour of what Nuwara Eliya was like in colonial times. The stay were very professional and service was excellent, and the food was delicious. We’d recommend the formal dinner, it’s a real one off experience!

SwitzerlandOf course this is an old hotel therefore the amenities aren’t the newest - however therefore you will have a truly authentic experience
If you are looking for an unique and authentic experience, this is the place! Hotel from another time, with a museum feel and in a magically beautiful setting. At night they put hot waterbottles into our beds - this was so amazing! We received a beautiful cake for our honeymoon.

United KingdomVery squeaky beds and loud neighbours.
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and exceptional service. We especially loved that we could borrow clothes for the evening meal to ensure we were appropriately dressed for the dress code. I loved the little touches of turning down the beds - hot water bottles and also the Jammie dodgers.

AustraliaThe High Tea was rather underwhelming for the price compared to other teas we have experienced. Our pot of tea arrived 30 minutes after our food - not a disaster but would have been nice to accompany the food :)

United KingdomNothing!
A genuinely unique experience, as there are now very few of similar ex-colonial clubs like this - and even fewer where temporary membership is offered to enable non members to stay. We arrived here unexpectedly on Christmas Eve but were received as welcome guests. Without formal wear for dinner, I was loaned a jacket, tie and shoes with which to enjoy dinner. Nuwala Eliya is really no longer ‘Little England’ so The Hill Club is an unmissable experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food & drinks were lovely - and surprisingly reasonably priced!
