Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe tiredness of the decor. Seems a shame for it to be left in such a beautiful old colonial building,
The property was located slightly out the main town up a hill. Walkable, but a little scary in the dark at night time. We had a torch though. The room itself was big and comfy but a little outdated. There were what looked like stains on the ceiling, and the grout/sealant around the shower room looks grotty, but we were only there for 1 night so this didn't bother us and for the price we paid. The bed was extremely comfy and had a nice thick duvet and blanket on it for snuggling down in as the temperature was much cooler at night time in this area. The breakfast was in the hotel next door was basic - fruit, toast, cake, coffee. Not the best but not the worst.

Sri LankaThe door lock of our room was broken and couldn't lock it properly. There was no hand shower in the bath cubicle. There was no balcony and the room.was adjoining a store room.
The breakfast was superb. The lady at the breakfast was warmly welcoming with a smile and she was very kind and helpful.

United StatesThe host Mr. Dilruksha and the front desk attendant Shakeeb were very accommodating during my stay at the Trevene. The building is historic and has a quaint feeling nestled in the forest. Breakfast was great. Skip the Western options and go for the Sri Lankan food. Their chef is excellent and it was one of the best local meals I had on my journey through Sri Lanka. The location is within walking distance of the central bus station, Victoria Park, lakeside and great restaurants.

NetherlandsOn the booking there was information about laundry service, but actually it is not available anymore. It's good that we double checked before coming, because we had to arrange laundry in another location.
The room is in a very nice house close to a park in a quiet street. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was very quiet, and in that area the air is cooler so no need in air conditioning. The Wi-Fi worked well, but could be a bit slow in the evening or if were in the room too far away from the corridor where the router was located. The bathroom was clean, but it was tricky to get warm water, because it was either hot or cold, so we had to "play with the settings". The breakfast was very good, so we truly enjoyed it. The staff members were very hospitable.

United KingdomThis is a beautiful building which is now tired and needs minor repairs and repainting. (Eg toilet seat broken, loose connection for kettle and lamp). Would prefer breakfast to be served in this property rather than the modern hotel next door. Evening menu was expensive pizzas and burgers only.
Friendly warm welcome from the host. Lovely terrace on the garden to sit on . Close to town . Good quality warm blankets.

United KingdomThe room was not very clean
The staff were very friendly. The hotel is well located not far from the centre of town but just off a quiet road. The hotel is an antique Planters Bungalow and most of its facilities are also antique. A good breakfast was provided in the hotel next door. We visited Horton Plains and saw wild deer. The entrance cost to Horton Plains on 1st January 2024 was 33,228.80 SLR (£82) for three people with the taxi and driver. Horton Plains has one of the dirtiest canteen (café) and toilets in Sri Lanka.

A very beautiful colonial bungalow super close to Victoria Park and the centre. The bed was very comfortable and the room very cosy. The breakfast buffet was great with a big choice of tasty food options. The hosts are incredibly helpful and kind. We really enjoyed our stay at the Trevene Hotel.

The host is very helpful and manager shakeeb is very attentive and attends to all the needs, really appreciate the hospitality. It's a Colonial bungalow 150 years old property, so it has its own old world charm. The bedsheet pillows and towels provided are clean. The bathroom is maintained clean. Food is ok.

BangladeshRoom has no mirror, TV doesn't work, and for dinner, it has only pizza option.
Very well maintained property, though it's a 150 years old bungalow. We wanted to experience that and really enjoyed the overall bungalow experience. Breakfast is good, big room & double blanket really helped as it can get really cold at night. Location: close to town/bus stand. But it's a 10 min walk. Night walk can be a bit difficult as no light or people after 8pm.
