It is a bit far from the center. It is a rural area. You need a tuktuk each time to get the city center. There is not that much around. Houses needs a bit of upgrade.

The most I like of this place is the people. Everyone, including the owner is so friendly and helpful. The pool and the breakfast is amazing. We also love the garden. Great place for families with children. I would definitely come back.

We loved everything about Villa Shade! Shiraj was our favourite host in Sri Lanka, his staff were friendly and helpful, the food was amazing! The pool was great, the service was perfect and we even got a personal tour of the organic fruit and vegetable garden by Shiraj, our kids were able to play in Shiraj’s families tree house and fed his fish. A wonderful experience for our family and we highly recommend it!

Nothing - our stay was perfect.

This was the perfect place to stay after arriving in Sri Lanka and before departing to the tea country. The property is beautifully maintained and we could tell a lot of love goes into it. The gardens are so peaceful and beautiful, and the family room perfect for our family of five with three young boys. The hosts went out of their way to serve us a delicious, plentiful breakfast the next morning. The provided food was perfect for our children as well as delicious, home made Sri Lankan food with organic ingredients from their own garden. We just wish we had longer to enjoy it. The swimming pool and grounds were so peaceful and great for exploring. If we return to Sri Lanka we would choose to stay here again.

We are Estonian family with two teenage kids and stayed one night before taking a flight next morning. Villa´s location is excellent if you have an early flight to catch and staff in villa looks after guests so well. Owner was meeting us in person on arrival and while checking in, we were offered fresh home made lemon juice made from their own organic garden lemons. We were helped with our luggage. Our teens were thrilled by the pool, basketball ground and beautiful villa.

Comfort- I didn’t sleep well, some of the reasons most likely out of the control of Villa Shade which would be some local debris burning and the barking of dogs throughout the night. The beds are single mattresses next to each other creating a hard seam which makes it uncomfortable to cuddle in the bed- a king sized topper would be a welcomed cure. There could be an extra pillow for choice, I found the one provided to be too hard and high. Value for money- After staying at many homestays and hotels in Sri Lanka, it is my opinion that in comparison the price is too high for what is included (we stayed in an amazing five star resort by the beach including breakfast for a similar price). I found the dinner and breakfast to be good but the cost to be high for the quality and range given. Cleanliness- floors could be a bit cleaner but otherwise it was very very clean.

Staff- A very friendly owner and staff. Service is really good. They met us with a welcome drink. Comfort- AC works well and the lighting of the rooms are nice. Facilities- The villas and property are tastefully designed and well kept. The villa has a bedroom, a separate kitchenette, a separate dressing room with lots of storage and a lovely outdoor bathroom with a rainshower. There is a beautiful garden, a nice and clean pool, and a fun bonus of having basketball and badminton courts. Cleanliness- Mostly sparkling clean! Floors need a little attention. Location- Cute local neighborhood about 20 to 30 minutes from the airport which was why we stayed there the night before our departure.

My only ''gripe'' was that we were not there long enough to enjoy more of Villa Shade. We arrived late in the evening and were away about 10am the next morning to begin our 7 day tour.

Villa Shade certainly felt like coming home. We stayed for 3 nights. This place is a beautiful labour of love by Shiraj and Deepika. Full of Srilankan herbs, spices, fruit and vegetables, the garden highlights the natural beauty of Srilanka. Breakfast is delightful experience with a combination of natural juice, fruits and traditional Srilankan sweet pastries. Home cooked dinner is typically Srilankan and must be tried if you want the authentic experience. On our first day we used the bikes to cycle to negombo town and the beach. On the 2nd day Shiraj took us to the coconut toddy field to show us how toddy was extracted. After a lovely toddy, he took us to see how cinnamon was prepared with humanity. sustainability and respect. Highly recommended. You will leave experiencing typical Srilankan hospitality and a full heart and stomach 🥰

Together with our 3 kids we spent our first 2 nights here after arriving in Sri Lanka. It was such a great and relaxed getaway. The hospitality of the owners was outstanding - very friendly, super helpful and great with our kids. Dinner there was the best we had in Negombo!

Fantastic welcome from the family at Villa Shade. Very authentic and they had thought of everything. Excellent and copious breakfast. The kids enjoyed feeding the fish, going in the pool, the hammock.
