Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaRoom is nice and clean. But very thin wall. I could hear the whole conversation of the customer next to me. Unfortunately, the swimming pool was under repair or closed (as of April 2024).
Good location! We can access to the Jonker street and Dutch square easily. It was also good that the river was behind the hotel. Friendly staff. About break fast, few various but taste nice. we could choise fried egg, omelet, scrambled egg and ham, sausage. breads and coffee, tea too.

MalaysiaA bit strange not having a real window. There was a window look-a-like, a dummy one. Didn’t realise that the room we booked had no window.

GermanyThe staff are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful perankan interior. Hotel location is great - right next to the river with a nice walk along the river into the old town. There is a food centre next door, serving cendol, ikan bakar, satay and other local Malay food.

South AfricaThe place needs some maintenance,it's a bit dated. The breakfast was very simplistic with not a lot of variety. The pool needs to be fixed as it would be an amazing addition to the property
The location is amazing, it's right on the river. The house is absolutely beautiful and it's lovely seeing all the antique furniture. Lovely staff who were very helpful. The room is very big, more than enough space for two people.

New ZealandRoom and hotel corridors are in a rough condition. Lots of marks on the walls and stains on the carpet and ceiling. Pool wasn’t open, apparently under maintenance but no work was being done on it while we were there. A quick search on booking.com shows it has been “under maintenance”for over 2 years. Breakfast is not good, very limited options (no fruit, no pastries). Pancakes were clearly reheated and tasted pretty stale. Service from staff was overall good but certain interactions were a bit unfriendly - came home from a day out and said hello to the female receptionist and she didn’t even look up.
Comfortable bed and good air conditioning. Bathroom was clean with good shower. We had an internal room so no natural light but it meant the room was quiet.

United StatesUnfortunately, the swimming pool was no longer operational. Also, we don't understand why hand towels are not provided, only bath towels. In the room, additional hooks can make hanging clothes easy and comfortable.
I liked that the elements of the original design of the old Peranakan house were well preserved. The hotel is conveniently located in Chinatown, with access from the street and the Riverwalk. The room was comfortable, with a lot of space and a great bathroom. The staff was very polite and helpful.

United KingdomDidn’t return the 50 rm cash deposit to me, probably the receptionist just forgot to hand over the money, later the hotel denied everything. They charge the tourism tax separately, I wanted to pay by card and the receptionist said that he needs to manually input my card details into the system, even though the payment was through a terminal - this was so strange. There is no lift so you have to carry your luggage up the narrow stairs. Walls are very thin and I could hear what my neighbours were saying (even though they were not shouting). I booked a room with no window (I knew it) and it wasn't as bad as I expected, maybe because I was outside throughout the day anyway.
Beautiful interiors in common spaces, it’s a traditional Chinese house. Spacious room and bathroom. There is a small breakfast included in the price, it includes a hot dish (eggs or pancakes). The hotel is located right by the river, you can exit to the riverwalk from the back door and enjoy walking there. It’s close to all main sights. Late check in (close to midnight) wasn’t a problem.

NetherlandsThe room was pretty basic, even though it wasn't the cheapest room on the premises. We also had a problem where tiles were loose in the bathroom. Management offered us a different room after a concerned staff member asked them too, so that was nice (though they ended up fixing the tiles so it was all fine). It is also a shame the swimming pool is no longer available. We took a peak and it does not look like it will be anytime soon, even though the view of the river while swimming must be marvelous. Lastly, the outside of the building on the river side could use a bit of a facelift.
Aava's fantastic staff made us feel welcomed from the very start. The hotel is located in the old town in a lovely heritage building, but far enough from both Jonker street and the lively bars at the river for it to be a quiet stay. We especially loved the beautiful room in which breakfast was served. It makes you feel like you're actually a part of this historical town, which is really nice. Also it is great there is a back exit leading directly to the river and the nice walkways adjacent to it.

ItalyThe room, especially the blankets and the floor, was not well cleaned (stains all over, spiderwebs around). Although breakfast was included for us, we didn’t like the food options (pre cooked pancakes were not edible). Understaffed especially in the morning. There’s no lift.
The area where the hotel is located is perfect for city sightseeing. As soon as you enter the Lobby you feel well welcomed. Complimentary bikes highly appreciated and laundry service great touch. The lady at the reception was very helpful.

United StatesIt’s not a complaint, only info. I last minute moved to Aava Malacca a day early, so ended up in. King Suite facing the road. It’s a beautiful and spacious room, but there is more road noise. I then moved to an inside king with no window, which was quieter. If you sleep deeply, it won’t matter, but if you are a light sleeper like me, I’d go for the inside room with no window.
I’ve just finished a three month trip around SE Asia, Malaysia and Singapore utilizing 20 hotels. Of those 20, Aava Malacca was one of the two best hotels I stayed in! The hotel is a bit outside the main tourist area, which definitely keeps it quieter. The property is beautiful, the staff very helpful, and the rooms are not only larger, but very comfortable. Excellent enclosed shower with immediate hot water and good pressure, and room to move in the bathroom. One of the major perks is the mattress! I’ve had nothing but cheap, hard, uncomfortable mattresses everywhere, but Aava Malacca has invested in better, softer mattresses with an actual topper. I had some of the best rest here of my entire trip! There’s also a made to order breakfast included, not a major breakfast, but plenty to start the day. The hotel itself is a rehabilitated historic building, so beautiful surroundings as well. You’re just a block from major sights and good restaurants and a short walk to Dutch Square. I really enjoyed my stay here, would stay again and highly recommend this hotel for a peaceful stay!
