Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe food taste and quality could improve more.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful. I love the traditional houses which has been converted to hotel rooms. It gives you the experience of living in a village - but luxuriously. The surrounding is very green, which is so relaxing and provides a brilliant tropical experience.

ThailandIn some ways the location didn’t matter because it’s its own oasis but it’s a little isolated from the beach our house being on the 2nd floor looked out over a construction site beyond the property. It was also a bit noisy early hours with the mosque nearby but got back to sleep.
Loved the unique buildings and tranquil setting. The restaurant was great and staff helpful. For us it was the perfect place to unwind at the end of our holiday.

United KingdomAir conditioning a colonial style property is not perfect due to the style of the building.
Interesting historically with all houses being colonial properties taken from various sites in Malaysia. Really nice old colonial style square bar. At the quiet end of Cenang beach(15 min walk) but has a nearby good place for coffee ( Smiling Buffalo) and the sister property at Bon Ton next door has an authentic Thai restaurant. Use Grab app for taxis as local taxis much more expensive but still not too bad. Would be good for larger groups as whole houses could be booked.

United KingdomThe walls in the room were quite thin so it lacked privacy. Our shower room could've done with some updating on the flooring.
It was a beautiful unique setting with very friendly staff. The breakfast was a nice spread with good selection of teas/coffees and hot chocolate. The location was great as it was a short taxi ride to the main beach but there are local beaches close by too.

United KingdomCocktails were a bit too strong.
Beautiful buildings and great location - away from the busy beach but yet still easy to reach all attractions in just a short ride via taxi. Very tranquil setting and love the old houses which have so much character with lovely little touches and attention to detail. Staff were so friendly and helpful in organising tours and helped make a birthday celebration so special. Good breakfast too. Would highly recommend.

United KingdomBuilding work adjacent to main house. Noise a bit intrusive and guests might have been better informed of this activity. One of waiters apologised in fairness but nobody else.
Restful place which all very relaxing. Friendly staff. Nice pool (larger one). Very kindly allowed us to use other room for shower etc. since evening flight home.

FinlandBeach being further away wasn’t a problem, but direct proximity to a vast building site and some passing traffic was a bit annoying.
Amazing historical buildings making up this property. Elegant bar and dining area, a real colonial gem. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Cyprus1) There is one fundamental problem to the concept: the allowance of children. If this property is to promote itself as a relaxing “retreat”, it must ban all children immediately. If it chooses not to, it might as well become a luna park. Regrettably the only negative during this stay is the number of infants, babies and children present. Some quiet and well-behaved, others hyperactive and expectedly loud from 7am. Some well managed, others under very bad parenting - a symptom of our days. It also appears that the property permits dinner bookings from non-guests, an even bigger opportunity for more children to come in and make noise. This issue is so significant that despite the magic of this property, I will not consider re-visiting until children are banned. 2) Some non Malay staff speak extremely limited English with sentences often half understood. Anyone working in the hospitality industry must be able to speak at least some intermediate English. 3) Digital check-in upon arrival: scrap it and move back to traditional check-in. I’m 33 and I’m making this comment - I can only imagine what a 60yo would say. Digital check-in is not consistent with this property’s ‘rustic’ vibe and it just serves to frustrate guests.
1) This is a particularly unique property architecturally, which bases its entire concept on rustic colonialist design. It is a fabulous idea that works well due to how unusual it is. The entire resort (or retreat) is well kept and makes for a special stay. 2) Special thanks to Mini who would always go the extra mile to satisfy us, always with a big smile. The property needs more Minis! 3) Food (including breakfast) is very good. 4) Location is excellent, very accessible to the main sites on the island. 5) Each house is well maintained on a daily basis, as expected

United KingdomNot a lot to say here really.
I can't say how much we loved this hotel. Loads of characters, very comfortable. We stayed at colonial 2 and it was amazing. Staff where amazing and very helpful. They arranged a tour to the mangroves for us. The restaurant is also very good and reasonable. This isnt a modern hotel so does have some quirks which adds to it's charm but does have some mod cons WiFi Decent TV with netflix and AC.

United StatesThere were no phones in the rooms in case we needed something urgent. Would have had to walk to reception, where no one would be. (No regular staff at night). Wi Fu broker down the very morning of our departure to the airport, and couldn’t call a Grab driver, as the app was down. Had to ask a kitchen staff in the rear if we could use his phone to call someone..it was cutting it close to catch our flight.
The rustic, colonial setting and grounds. Beautiful area. Concierge was kind, and showed us personally to our room, explaining things. Quite helpful!

GermanyPlantation House 5 doesn’t get a lot of natural light, therefore we eventually moved to Colonial House 4 which was beautiful and bright. They only had 2 high chairs at the restaurant, which was only a problem during one lunch when they were both already in use.
Beautiful and unique resort, made for an amazing first vacation with our 8 month old baby. Great food and lovely pool meant we didn’t need to leave the resort much, but Grab taxis were easily accessible. We enjoyed short walks to the smiling buffalo cafe and animal shelter/Bon Ton restaurant next door too.
