Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThe attacking birds while eating at the restaurant .. they were amusing at first then just really annoying after that ... Was a problem at other resorts to be fair Shame we could not go swimming because of the year long ban because of shark attacks
We had a room over the water .. definitely worth the extra .. big and spacious.. easy access to the water and sunny deck .. watching the wildlife in the water ... Turtles , snakes and numerous fish

AustraliaI was very disappointed not to be able to snorkel from the bungalow due to the shark scare. There was nothing in the information provided about the venue that indicated that this was the case. I researched the swimming ban on tourist web pages and the hotel page and it said nothing about a swimming ban at Ilot Maitre. This was deceiving.
The stunning location

New ZealandThe pool was quite cold, and you can hear the music at night from the Anse Vata quite late (until 3 am).
We stayed there for a treat at the end of our holidays, the buffet dinner was amazing, really nice quality food and a great variety to choose from. The staff was friendly, the location was really nice and it was very easy to get to and from the main island with the taxi boat where the captain and his team were also really good. The buffet breakfast was also very nice.

New ZealandLunch and dinner can be pricey, however you do have the option to bring your own food to the island with you if this is an issue. Otherwise I couldn’t fault it!
We had the absolute best holiday at the DoubleTree by Hilton Resort! As a family with a toddler and a baby, everything was perfectly set up for us. Family friendly activities such as the beach and pool are only a minutes walk away from your villa, boardwalks between everything are stroller friendly, rooms have blackout blinds and are well soundproofed for naptimes, the cot provided was excellent quality, and the buffet breakfast was incredible, very toddler friendly and always plenty of high chairs available! The facilities were clean and modern and we had fantastic customer service the entire trip!

New ZealandThe standard of cocktails was quite variable. Would be good to have that more consistent. One young girl was great, and you could see she really cared about producing the right mix. Where sometimes the drink was quite different.
It was just an all round great experience. Relaxing and beautiful. Staff were great and accessibility to the mainland is a bonus.

AustraliaSome staff speak no English, which makes it very difficult to order most basic things (very common I understand). Eating dinner/lunch there is VERY limited and expensive. Do yourself a favour and stop and get snacks/drinks at supermarket before hand or bring with you. Bring your own snorkelling gear during the swim ban time, plenty of turtles to see and they aren’t allowed to rent them.
Overwater bungalows are spacious, comfortable and very well planned. Rooms were always kept clean. Location is amazing! The boat to and from city is easy to catch and runs many times a day. Breakfast is great but gets a bit “old” after day 4 or so. Overall fantastic place to stay. PS further back bungalows seemed to get LOT MORE turtle action than front ones, but also much windier in windy periods and long walk from reception.

AustraliaThere were a lot of ants but I think that's a normal thing in Noumea. Stayed at a different location and had the same issue. Breakfast was sufficient but had higher expectations considering it was a Hilton.

New ZealandThe beach area could be better developed
I re-read a lot of reviews about the resort and the conclusion is always the same: how many people have so many opinions, but there is always a median indicator. The choice is yours . If you don't like the calls of birds - don't stay in overwater bungalows, choose a bungalow on the opposite side of the island. If you get bored with the same meal every morning, don't stay too long. We stayed for 5 nights, it was very quiet at night, the birds did not grab food from the plates, since we ate inside, the food did not have time to get bored :)

New ZealandWe were excited to use the facilities and leisure activities on the island but unfortunately they weren't available due to a ban on swimming in the ocean due to sharks. We really wanted to experience the swim-up bar in the pool but it was never open during our whole stay.
Beautiful and peaceful place to stay. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the resort was clean and tidy.

AustraliaDinner buffet was very poor quality for a Hilton and the price was expensive. The grill section was under whelming with tough and under cooked meat. Foie Gras was slapped on a very hot grill and burnt and served. What was a waste. Hot food was over cook. more attention to food preparation, tasting is required to refine the service and quality of the food.
Breakfast was superb with great selection of food. Room is amazing with great views and size was terrific. Island was well maintained and clean and had great water activities available.

AustraliaThe hotel does not provide complimentary bottled water. This is rather inconvenient, because you'd really want to take some with you on kayak trip or on a beach. I don't know if it is safe enough to drink tap water there. Seagulls in restaurant area is quite a problem.
We liked pretty much everything there. Territory is well maintained, rooms are big and recently renovated, everyting is spotlessly clean and relatively new and/or well cared for. Food is exceptional, but well, it's New Caledonia, prepare to be spoiled by French cuisine :)

JapanJust very few details may need some enhancement, like having beach/pool towels for guests rather than having to use the ones at rooms. But that does nor detracts from the superb stay we had.
Everything, from the super attentive and helpful staff to the wonderful setting, the sumptuous and delicious buffet breakfast and the free boat ride from central Noumea. I also like the transparent water, the clean beaches, the functioning fitness Center and the nice atmosphere of the entire place.
