Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaIt's a bit far from everything, unless you're there to surf. I had a bike so this wasn't a big deal. There are regular buses that go to town tho. The hot water in my bathroom sink didn't work at all, and the hot water in the shower was barely present, but functional. More hammock chairs in the common area would have been good too. The guy at the front desk accidentally charged my booking to my credit card, even though he also took my cash when I checked in. I believe this was an honest mistake and he tracked me down and refunded the extra payment before I even knew it happened, so I feel bad even mentioning it, he and everyone else were so nice.
The staff were all so nice and made the stay better. The front desk staff were very helpful and the kitchen staff were friendly. Close to the beach if you want to surf. Music was good. There's a kitchen you can cook your own food but I didn't use it. The restaurant food was decent but not exceptional, tho I didn't really try that many things.

NetherlandsThe shared kitchen was a big dissapointment. No coffee machine, no normal drinking glasses (only coffee cups or plastic cups) and it ways filthy and not enough space in the fridge. I book Selinas for two reasons, the cool activities (which were mostly canceled here) and the good Wi-Fi and free coworking (for the coworking they charge you now $5 extra per day....)
The looks of the Hostel were quite nice. The Yoga deck was fantastic and the area near playa maderas was also very relaxed.

United StatesDear Selina Maderas My name is Midori “Verónica” Takeuchi. My husband and I stayed at Selina Maderas in Nicaragua 11-15 of October. I am writing this msg to thank your staff members at Selina Maderas for their excellent and warm service. Miss Suyan from the lobby, Maynor and Kieth from the restaurant, and other staff members that I can’t remember their names, thank you for your hospitality. They took a very good care of us. As my husband and I arrived at Selina Maderas, we said to each other “It’s worth it to travel all the way to Nicaragua from Spain”. Selina Maderas is the true paradise. Tropical flowers and butterflies. Miss Suyan from the reception was helpful, and she recommended us to change our room to a bigger one. I don’t know if I have her name correctly. We had a reservation for the Teepee. We had a lot of luggage since we were traveling from Spain. Teepee seems interesting and fun. I was gonna do it for the experience, but we would not have had enough space to accommodate ourselves comfortably. Our room had a nice view. The kitchen staffs were flexible and kind. The chef lady accommodated my husband’s request that he cannot eat certain things. I had been in Nicaragua before for my work, but this was our first time in Nicaragua on vacation. We loved it, and we plan to come back next year and stay at the Selina again.

IrelandThe place was very dirty. there was a big party on the night that I got there so the co-work space was not available for 2 days which was disappointing as i went there for that purpose. I also could not sleep as the party went on till 5am. The tap in the outdoor bathroom was leaking and I told them multiple times to fix it, the bathroom was extremely dirty with mud all over the floor, no soap to wash hands and dark hair clogging the drain.
the location is good if you’re interested in surfing at maderas beach! staff super nice and helpful and good value for money

ItalyWe slept in the tent, it was very hot and I couldn't sleep by the amount of mosquitoes in the tent. Even if we kept the mosquito net closed the whole time, it seemed like they kept coming. On top of the public bathrooms, there is a wasp nest, which makes it very uncomfortable.
They offer nice activities to do, they also have a cinema room. The swimming pool is very nice and they have a pool table.

United KingdomThe staff we dealt with at reception weren't very friendly, however good experience with staff in the bar area. Kitchen facilities were very poor. Lots of people using the kitchen, however not enough room in the fridge and not enough kitchen equipment for the amount of people staying here. The kitchen area was also unhygienic, cats allowed to freely roam on the kitchen sides and stealing food from our plates as we prepared food. Price of drinks were triple of what we payed anywhere else in Nicaragua We were looking forward to the free activities during our stay. We signed up to two and when we turned up, neither were actually on (advertised activities every day).

PolandThe receptionist lady (curly brown hair, I think she is the boss) was just the worst - extremely unhelpful, rude - she didn’t know anything, she gave us not the room we booked that clearly wasn’t prepared for new guests. Everything in Selina is overpriced and not included in price - in comparison to all other hostels we stayed in Central America, this was DEFINITELY the worst
The staff at the restaurant was nice and the idea of free yoga classes is cool

VietnamNo towel was provided.
I am a digital nomad so I loved the workspace that was free to use. The yoga and pool space were amazing to relax at, at any time of the day. The restaurant food was amazing and I ate there every day. The kitchen was also very convenient if you want to cook or store cold things. The dorms were clean had AC (definitely needed). There was a shuttle that travels 4 times a day :) so plan well :) Or take a lift with a local. Scooters can also be rented and they will bring it to the hostel.
