The hotel is truly magnificent. Beautiful building, rooms and staff are beyond professional and accommodating. My wife and I have travelled over 80 countries and the Chateauhotel De Havixhorst is likely the best accommodation we have ever had the privilege of visiting. And the restaurant and dining was just as exceptional. Truly a place worth making a special trip for.

The staff are really friendly and helpful! Especially the gentleman who took care of us during dinner! he is so professional and pleasant! He also helped us with adding an extra bed for the kid! Really nice experience!

There was nothing we didn’t like

We had a real surprise when we booked at this lovely property. Straight after our arrival, we headed for the bar for a lovely pre-dinner appetitive. The bar was stunning in a classic, rustic kind of way. We then were guided to our table in the dining room and this is where the real magic started to unfold in front of our eyes, with the absolute highlight of a dish with smoked eel for two persons. I didn’t expect at all this culinary feast. The staff were engaging and very pleasant. In the morning we were able to have a lovely breakfast despite us being up at 6:30am. What a treat this has been. I will make a detour next time i am in The Netherlands to visit this lovely place again….

Nothing, excellent place.

Amazing little gem 💎. Beautiful surroundings with great art. Really a place to get away from it all. Super friendly staff, feels like coming home. The restaurant has an excellent cuisine, my compliments for the chef. The duck liver in water melon still amazes me. And their wine selection is great. Price quality is top notch, am used to pay much more for this type of quality. Spacious, clean and luxurious rooms. A garden full with amazing statues. All in a setting of nature and tranquility. Never seen so many different species of birds in one place. Was there with my partner, who was flabbergasted by the romantic atmosphere. Certainly a place I will soon return to.

The hotel was beautiful and staff were lovely; very friendly & accommodating. As we stayed during COVID, some restrictions were in place to stop us being able to enjoy all of the facilities, but we had dinner delivered to the room and were able to pick out a bottle from the wine cellar. The little mat with dog bowls & some treats, including a little doggy toothbrush was a really nice little touch and shows that pets really are welcome. There is also a stork sanctuary almost next door, and we had a nest right outside of our window, which was lovely.

Felt royal every moment during our stay. Staff was polite, helpful, room was elegant and clean. Restaurant is top level- Dinner and breakfast was outstanding. Garden and territories around castle are beautiful, some 0,5 km away from castle is storks reservoir or something like that so there are a lot of storks.

Historic chateau in wonderful setting, with a nice walk to the stork foundation just outside the moat. Interior well maintained, but slightly dated. Great dinner and breakfast, consumed in our rooms because of covid.

Romantic, classic mansion near Meppel and Staphorst with a beautiful garden. Friendly service and excellent restaurant. Would definitely go back in summer when everything is in full bloom!

Room was in the attic without daylight with basic equipment (e.g., no fridge). Restaurant aspires to haute cuisine offering mini portions at exorbitant prices. The whole place is a bit pretentious and over the top. Maybe interesting as a venue for a business retreat.

menu 6 courses was not worth of money, good but not excellent, lamb was much too salty, some courses taste nothing, need more taste
