Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThere was no storage space in our room. It didn't bother me, but if you're looking for a cupboard or a few drawers, this is probably not for you. The kitchen (which is otherwise well-equipped) doesn't have an oven, which is a bit impractical if you want anything baked.
The room and facilities were nice and clean, the location is just amazing. There's a waterfall right behind the house that you can reach with a quick hike. Check-in was really easy after I had figured out how it worked since there was no staff on site. But they had a good system to let you know what to do.

CanadaWalking there for twenty minutes with our luggage’s was a bit of a treck.
The vibe was very much in nature. It was a short walk from the main area which was nice. The staff was really nice and very easy check in.

GermanyBe aware: it is a hostel, some quests might be loud at arrival or leaving, the house is old and you can hear everything as well as the squeaking wooden floor planks and stairs. But that’s part of it. If you don’t like that go to another more standard and less special place.
I had a single room at the nearly 300 year old fully renovated red house. Beautiful location. From my window i could see the waterfall. Big well equipped kitchen. Staff very friendly and helpful. Everything cery clean (except for some quests who might flood the bathroom).

CanadaThe bathroom on the main floor smelt terrible, like an outhouse. I believe, according to the log they had on the door, that it was only cleaned once while we were there for 4 nights.
It is in a beautiful location, it’s not too far from the main village area. The kitchen facilities are great.

NorwayIt would have been helpful to know in advance which rooms were assigned to us. We had reserved a couple of family rooms and were given rooms 4 and 10. Room 4 boasted a lovely view, whereas the view from room 10 wasn't as impressive. Additionally, room 10 had only one window, resulting in limited air circulation. If there had been an option to view room images during the booking process, we would have likely chosen rooms with better views. While not a significant issue, it's certainly a feature worth considering.
Revisiting the same location after eight years brought about a wave of nostalgia, especially with my kids in tow this time. They absolutely adored the atmosphere, especially the presence of goats, sheep, and cows. The scenery was as beautiful as I remembered it to be.

United KingdomSound transmits pretty freely through the old walls. Be aware that there is no oven. (There is a hob and a microwave though).
We stayed in the red house which is a picturesque traditional Norwegian farmhouse surrounded by goats and cattle. It’s well appointed and clean with enough bathrooms and a decent kitchen. Beautiful surroundings. Easy self check in.

GermanyIt’s very noisy, if you don’t like noise at night..then you’ll get irritated by the foosteps. There was a family with children when i stay, and they dont care of other people, the children keeps on running and playing at night and the parents does not care.
The location is a bit far from the train station but manageable. I stayed in the red house and the view around it is beautiful, its very near to the start of trail of the Waterfall. The kitchen, it is clean, it has 2 microwave oven and stove. You can something to cook in Coop near the train station. The Bathroom and toilet, its clean, there is two upstairs.

Estonia- way overpriced, mixed form with 6 very regular bed not stabilised - some mattresses are more comfortable than the other - only three bathrooms which could be an issue if too many guests but it was not when I went there - only salt / oil for cooking , no tea/ coffee
- Amazing location surrounded by nature, 20 minutes nice walk to the train station/ ferry port - Warm inside , good furnished kitchen, clean and comfortable bed sheets - Self check in was easy

United KingdomThe pillows and mattress were fine but could have been more comfortable. Also it was all self check in so it would have been nice to see our hosts on arrival and be greeted in case we had any issues and knew who to go to.
The location was beautiful - waking up on the farm with animals and stunning views all around! Bathroom even had underfloor heating! Very clean throughout.

United KingdomIf you are a light sleeper take a top room- these are traditional houses that do not have carpets upstairs. We were not bothered at all but I guess some might be.
Location is amazing- just next to a waterfall that you can walk up in twenty minutes or so. Flam itself is truly magical and Brekke Gard hostel has a relaxed and friendly vibe. We loved it there..thanks.

United KingdomNot really the hosts fault but the people sharing the building with us were super noisy late at night but also got up extremely early and did not attempt to be quiet. Squeaky floorboards as its all wooden but guests really do need to be quiet and more cosiderate of others at times. If youre a light sleeper this may not be ideal for you. Maybe "quiet hours" could be implemented.
Clean, cosy, private room. Beautiful mountain views with highland cows at the foot of the mountain. Peaceful area and short walk from centre of Flåm. Host on the phone was very polite and informative.

United KingdomIt was very noisy on a Saturday night, the place has very thin walls. I mentioned this to the staff and they weren't helpful. There was no oven (despite one being pictured), so all of my oven food that I'd bought to cover me for the bank holiday weekend had to go in the bin. Also no oil or salt/pepper or anything super basic like that for cooking. It was difficult to find the room after dark. I emailed ahead twice to ask about walking in the dark from the train station, and recieved no response. The phone number on booking also does not work. There was nothing to dry your hands in the bathroom.
Waking up to nature and the farm animals was amazing. It's like a fairytale norwegian house. The location is great, as is the the history of the building. It's very clean and tidy.

ItalyA connection with the village is just not there. You have to walk your way to the premises, which could be fine (if it is not raining) if one did not have to cross some main roads without crossing lanes. I understand such a matter is not in the hands of the hostel, but still: if you travel with elderly people or children, think twice about it. If you are the sporty/hiker type, then it's absolutely fine
The (red) ancient building is literally amazing! Great kitchen, great common room, great beds

FranceThere were no basic ingredients to cook (olive oil, salt, pepper). The room is very small and the small window has no curtain.
The location of the accommodation is close to the train and the ferry stations and you don't need to go to the reception to get the keys of your room which is very convenient. The shared living room is nice and the kitchen is convenient. Towels and bed linen are included in the price.

CanadaNot unexpected given the price but some things to keep in mind - Sparse room with (in my case) slopping roof so not possible to fully stand up. As others have mentioned, sound carries so bring ear plugs. A second pillow would be nice and hooks in the bedroom (there were none) and more in the bathroom (there was one).
Very clean, communal kitchen, beautiful setting in the mountains beside a sheep farm. Easy check in/check out.
