A family hotel in the mountains, a very good solution not only for winter holidays
    • Leisure trip

    • Double Room

A little bit unstable wi-fi in my room, but it had no impact on my overall impression.

Quite a large family hotel near Geilo, a well-known Norwegian center of winter sports at the margin of Hardagenvida. The distance from Geilo can be aporximately 10 km by car. There was originally a farm at the place where the hotel is situated, it has its own ski slope with a lift and an access to two paths for skiing crosscountry, including one with lighting at night. Other paths can be easily reached by car. The landlord is nice and willing to help with the choice of activity according to your expectations. The breakfast was excellent, the dinner was for an affordable price and very large like a double portion in usual restauratnts and it consisted of three dishes. Gluten free diet wasn´t a problem. Since the high season in Norway happens mostly in the Easter period and there vere not many guests, I got an upgrade of my room free of charge. There was nearly always fire in the fireplace in the refectory contributing to a very cosy atmosphere.

It would be nice to have a kettle to fill up thermos quickly instead of using a coffee machine. Billiard table was there, but some of the balls were lacking to fully enjoy the game.

Cozy atmosphere, beautiful decor in the dining area, amazing buffet for breakfast and dinner. Good slopes for cross-country skiing starting straight from the hotel.

The decor bedroom was a little old fashioned, but it was beautifully furnished with rustic pine items. We had a sitting area and balcony in addition to the bedroom area.

The breakfast at this hotel was really excellent. Many delicious options and plenty of it. We also booked in for dinner the night we arrived and that was also delicious. The dining room is beautiful and comfortable, with a mixture of modern and traditional mountain decor.

Well, spooky place, in fact. A good cleaning would be needed in the hotel - stairs, corridors....

Absolutely magic breakfast and very welcoming Chief. Big room, nice view It was some kind of traveling in time but it is worse to have this experience. And this local business needs to be supported

We didn’t know that every other day the towels were. hanged and the bathroom cleaned. No problem for us if we would have known. Maybe it was written in the map with information that was in the room, but everything was written in Norwegian, so we didn’t understand.

The beautiful view. excellent breakfast and dinner.

Slightly dated atmosphere and equipment, could use a refurb but to be honest that doesn't take away from.how.clean and neat they have maintained it..

The wifi was more or less unusable in our room and I think it would do a lot for the look of the room if the ceiling was in a better state. But this didn’t detract from our lovely stay.

Large room with sleeping area and lounge area. Balcony with great view over the mountains. Fridge with inbuilt safe in room. Comfortable beds. Large bathroom. Usual Norwegian wooden cabin furniture. Very pleasant owners and staff who did all they could to accommodate our milk allergies. Everything you could wish for at the breakfast buffet and evening meal was a set meal with soup (this was swapped for another dish for us), salmon, potato and carrots and cheese cake (swapped for sorbet with fruit and berries for us) Free coffee and tea next to the piano in the dining room.

When you want to stay in the mountains and avoid the bustle at Geilo, come to Lia. You’ll get good food, a great breakfast and very friendly hosts. Even if it’s some time ago, you still feel that Lia once used to be a farm that eventually found its way into tourism.

The hotel owners - Knut Arne and Bjerge - were so friendly and caring. We went out of season and they were so attentive to us with meals, ski hire and lifts to the town. Knut Arne even helped our youngest family member to learn to ski and took us around the mountain on his snow mobile and to see the Moose and Deer. It was a truly magical place to stay and very family orientated.
