Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe room is above the bar and therefore very noisy on the weekends.
Great value for money. Very good breakfast options. Centrally located, so you're able to catch the ski bus easily.

IcelandWe got a room upgrade to get a sitting area. The previous room needed maintenance. The central heater didn't work in the second room but we got good electric heaters in the room. The young man in the reception did everything to meet our needs and the stay was extremely enjoyable. 😊
We were welcomed very well, the breakfast was good, the bed was comfortable, quiet environment at the end of the corridor and then the reception was very cozy.

DenmarkBreakfast is OK - but with limited selection, quantity and quality of food. Hotel is old and inventory and furniture is worn and carpets partly miscoloured. No good insulation in the rooms - so if your nabour is noisy - it can be heard.
Great location in the center of downtown Hemsedal, close to skibus, shops and restaurants. It is possible to book specific number of days for the day, - and the length of stay. Many other hotels only accept saturday to saturday - or similar ...

NorwayI don’t really have anything specific negative to say. Just note that the breakfast options are a little more sparse during the summer compared to the ski season.
Skogstad is my favourite place to stay at in Hemsedal. Good price and great location.

United StatesA functioning espresso machine in the breakfast room. One can tell the lodging in Hemsedal takes a beating in the winter with folks partying too hard. No floor towel for the shower. It was as expensive as a nicer hotel in Oslo that we stayed at.
Breakfast was good except the espresso machine was not functioning while we were there. We had a larger room with a couch which was nice. Nice large closet with shelves - a bonus. Comfortable bed. The staff was awesome.

United KingdomRoom perhaps was a little tired but it didn't spoil our stay.
Room was a good size and we were at the "quiet" end so didn't have too many issues with noise, although some residents didn't know how to close a door quietly at 4am! Breakfast was excellent - every thing you could need. Everyone at reception were very helpful and we would stay there again. The shower was amazing. Great location for catching the skibuss

United KingdomBasically I would just warn anyone booking a stay here that it might be a bit of a lottery. Half the rooms have been renovated and the others not. I was first put into a non renovated room, it was old and battered, the carpet was all stained, the sofa was stinking out the rest of the room, everything felt grimy and unclean. Bathroom had old fixtures and the shower cubicle had mould all in the grout and going up the wall. Personally I don’t think those rooms are fit to house anyone, but you do get local construction workers staying here so maybe they don’t mind as it’s just a place to crash after work, personally I think the hotel owners are taking liberties in even letting those rooms out as they are. But like most hotels, they spend the money on the outside and the lounge and bar etc, put nice pics of those online and hope nobody moans when they get a battered up old hotel room.
The positives are after my room was changed, first room had very little positives. The hotel looks nice from the outside, the inside is very cosy and homely, stairways and hallways all done nice. They have a bar and tapas restaurant. Staff were always helpful when I needed anything. Breakfast was on the first floor, was a Buffett and they had pretty much everything you could want, and as a Brit I was grateful they had some really nice loose leaf tea in offer….there was plenty of choice of foods, staff on duty always nice and pleasant. The newly renovated room I got was very decent and had not much to be concerned about, definitely a 3 star standard. Nice view of the mountains. The non renovated rooms are a zero stars. location is very good, right in the main town, so shops, buses petrol station, everything near by. There is a free bus shuttle to take you up to the ski lodge and the slopes. Runs every 30 mins on a loop from about 8am to 6pm. Also the coaches to and from the town stop at the bus stop which is about 500ft from the hotel. They kindly let me keep my bags in the store room during the day of my check out.
