  • Manowhenua Lodge Review score: 8.9

“The property was pretty much as described and as the photos showed. The room was a 6-bed dorm and was fairly spacious and well-lit. Each person had a locker and the beds were comfortable, and there was a small shelf which allowed you to leave some valuables fairly close to your person as you are sleeping. The only downside of the room I stayed in was that there were limited charging ports and only located in one part of the room on a shelf. This is not ideal if staying with strangers. The kitchen was well-stocked but I suspect it would be a little bit on the cramped side if the hostel was at full occupancy.”

  • Plateau Lodge Review score: 8.4

“Staff were very friendly and helpful! The room was very comfortable, we could not complain about the facilities as we had opted for shared. Kitchen was adequately equipped although I did have to tighten a couple of saucepan handles that were very loose.”

  • The Park Hotel Ruapehu Review score: 7.7

“Location, friendly staff, cosy restaurant and comfy rooms.”

  • National Park Backpackers Review score: 7.9

“The location was excellent, with good access to the national park and many walks for differing abilities. The pub nearby offered a fun game of mini golf and good food and Whakapapa village has a very useful information centre and wonderful dark skies at night making it a good place for stargazing.”
