Nothing! Impossible to fault. The restaurant and wine (I absolutely love the 2018 French Farm Pinot Gris, bought a few bottles to take home) are world class and the property is amazing.

Loved our stay! We are return visitors and had the best time. Lunch at the onsite restaurant was excellent and the food (lamb pies and lasagne) we ordered for room service on the two nights were amazing. The room was very comfortable and I loved waking up to the amazing vineyard views in the mornings and watching the most beautiful sunsets. Thoughtful touches like breakfast provisions, mountain bikes for use on the trail and great Sans toiletries in the bathroom. Friendly and warm service. Wish we could have stayed for longer! We’ll be back. Thanks Pen and Nick for hosting us - it’s a privilege being able to stay at the vineyard and have the whole place to ourselves at night!

The location was good. The view from the room was wonderful. The solitude and quietness of the B&B was delightful. The supplied continental breakfast was very nice and the still warm homemade bread when delivered to our room was appreciated.

Nothing, it was wonderful.

We arrived as weary travelers after 26 hours of flying and found ourselves in stunning and peaceful surroundings at Black Estate and received a very warm welcome by Pen and her team. The room is a perfect little hideaway in the vineyard and we were able to buy a delicious homemade lasagne to eat in our room while we rested and drank some of their delicious wines. We had the place to ourselves after dark which was bliss. We had bikes to explore the area.

Right next to lovely winery restaurant so could enjoy the chef’s choice lunch and not have to drive home. When the workers left the views were ours to enjoy with our dog.

Using the air conditioner for heating was a bit uncomfortable and there was a light sensor in the room so every time you rolled over in bed it came on. I thought the bathroom could have done with some heated lighting.

The B&B is tucked away below the main building with cellar door and restaurant. We had lunch at the restaurant and it was superb and made our stay very special. The location is stunning with views of Waipara towards the mountains. There was fresh snow on the mountain tops and the air was clean and crisp. The breakfast provided was perfect with lovely bread, spreads, yoghurt and granola and fresh ground coffee. There is no fireplace.

We arrived at lunch time and were greeted warmly by the staff. We opted to dine at the restaurant, prior to checking in, the service, food and wine were all exceptional. The B& B was very comfortable and at 5 pm everyone, guests and staff, disappear so we had the whole winery to ourselves. Perfection.

Location is beautiful. It’s very quiet. The room is comfortable nice to relax with amazing views. The bathroom is well equipped and there is heating and aircon if it is needed in the room. The mini bar is well stocked. The water from the tap is good to drink. Being a winery there are some lovely wines to try in the room, but they are not complimentary of course. Breakfast is cereal, bread, jams, tea, coffee in the room . We take fruit and extra snacks also. There is great walking or cycling right there, through country paddocks and vineyard trails.

The breakfast left in our room was fresh and healthy. Fresh bread was provided and we could order more. All products were local. The room is the only one in a winery building. It’s very private and quiet. It is warm and very clean.The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom large and well stocked with fresh towels and toiletries. The fridge was well stocked and there was fresh coffee. The winery restaurant next door was open for delicious lunches from 11.30-5. It has a very good reputation for its delicious food and wine. There are many amazing walk and cycle trails through kms of vineyards. We had delightful early morning walks with stunning photo opportunities along the way. Highly recommended.

The opportunity to stay on site after a beautiful meal and wine tasting.Then relaxing in the peaceful surroundings of the vineyard watching a worker tending the vines.Life had slowed down and COVID was but a distant memory for that short time.

Nothing! It was fabulous- highlight of our NZ trip.

We stayed at the bnb for two nights, did the wine tasting, bought a bottle of wine and also had lunch at the restaurant. We were blown away by the warm hospitality (shout out to Missy, Sam and Pen the incredibly lovely owner). The bnb truly exceeded our expectations, all these thoughtful touches like freshly baked bread with housemade spreads and granola for breakfast, complimentary local craft beers, lovely toiletries and the best part was we had the entire vineyard to ourselves at night! We felt so privileged staying there it was the real highlight of our trip. Had such a good sleep in that really comfy bed and it was so nice waking up to those views! Also loved that it was next to a great walking / cycling track! As foodies from Melbourne we were very impressed by the quality of the food we enjoyed at the restaurant - the venison main was perfectly cooked, my husband’s spatzle main was all kinds of umami with the 62 degree egg and I loved my glass of orange wine! The wines are excellent - my other favourite was the Wild Life Profilo Pinot noir. Thank you so much for an unforgettable stay xx
