Most of the staff seemed to need some training - it took five attempts to book a table at the restaurant between three different staff. A bit embarrassing going to a resort in NZ that rates itself as upmarket but there are warnings and signs everywhere about charges for stealing cutlery etc.

Beautiful dinner -hugely improved. shame the waitress was chewing gum. We stayed in a studio instead of a chalet this time and it was very nice, had a bath and very comfortable bed and was handy to the restaurant.

Disappointed with the evening meal. My husband ordered, the Angus ribeye but it was very tough ,not what he expected but he didn't send it back. Unit 21 was a disability room which was not required or requested, we expected a shower cubicle as shown in the resort pictures. Shower curtain was marked and dragging on the floor, mentioned this at reception but were told there were no other rooms. But when we couldn't get the TV to work we were moved into a chalet. We would have been more than happy to pay the difference if offered by the male receptionist.

We found the breakfast adequate, the scrambled egg was tasteless. Kamal gave my husband a tray of pastries for his birthday during the breakfast, which was a very kind gesture and very thoughtful. Kamal gave exceptional customer service trying to fix the TV, very apologetic for it not not working. Hence the move to a chalet, which was just perfect. Would definitely stay again and book a chalet, with the friendliness and customer service from Kamal mainly and other staff.

Restraunt, food was good, breakfast buffet had no milk or bread options and sachet coffee only! Service a little inattentive. Had to wait at the desk for service more than once.

Comfortable studio, everything we needed. Great location and view.

Not really a moan. Just comments that may help future guests on what to expect. When in a villa, you are reliant on the buggy service to get around. This is marvelous but can be await during breakfast and dinner time. But one is on holiday, so who cares! The chalets seem to have space for parking a car. But they are located in a more established part of the resort. Where the villas are located in newly established and the plantings need time to grow.

Everything. The views were awesome. The food in the restaurant was marvelous The drinks are well priced. Villa was spacious and clean and newly constructed. The staff were excellent and friendly. The breakfast was fantastic with a variety that would satisfy most people. Recommend to anyone who wants a getaway.

The bed had a firm matress, but this is because personal preference is medium.

Castaways is exactly as the name implies. It is a place to unwind and be away from every day routine It is set on the West Coast and stays true to the environment it is built in When we first booked, I was hesitant due to lower reviews for staff , onsite restaurants, and the wait times for buggies for transport and accommodation. What was clear on our weekend away is that all staff are attentive from check-in to checkout. There were several occasions where customers in restaurant were heard to be demanding of the hospitality staff . I commend the staff's professional behavior at all times during these interactions . The buggies reduce traffic between villas. This is something we appreciated on our stay as it remained peaceful at all times . The accommodation was beyond expectation and provided privacy and peace if needed while staying with others .

The resort feels half finished. As others have mentioned, it’s a bit tired. There is no pool and no beach access from the resort. If you go to the beach you have to walk down a narrow road that cars use where there is no footpath. No bedside lamps, which may sound trivial but it’s annoying.

Amazing views. Recommended if you have a car and can get a chalet for a good price.

Probably outside their control but there were a lot of moths and if you left a window open then be sure to return to a room full of them, otherwise it was perfectly fine. Breakfast was simple and good to start the day off if you have a busy schedule, however when busy there was a bit of a wait for dishes to be refilled, but hard when understaffed too, otherwise fine.

Views were stunning, particularly from the villas. It was clean and homely. Accommodation offered all the essentials. Staff were friendly and very accommodating.

The phone and dishwasher was not working. The sofa's cushioning a bit worn, therefore it became uncomfortable to sit through a movie. The beds were good, but with my back, I need a firm mattress.

The view is such a blessing. The bungalow is roomy and pleasing.

Restaurant is sub par considering that is is a five star resort. Restaurant decor and furnishings outdated, and buffet breakfast included in our stay comparable with a 3 star hotel - only instant coffee included as part of buffet. We arrived for breakfast on the second morning of our stay to find no free tables and staff looking completely overwhelmed and run off their feet.

    Location and views outstanding.

The layout can be a bit tricky, you have to take golf carts to get everywhere, and are only provided this service if you are in the nicer rooms, and only until 10pm. The hills are VERY steep to walk down. The basic rooms are definitely dated with things peeling and looking generally sad. I think the price doesn’t accurately reflect the stay until they do some work on the rooms, it is well over priced. There is very limited cellphone service and data doesn’t work here. The wifi is okay in spots but also cuts out.

The location is beautiful, the beach and cliffs are breathtaking. The rooms are spacious and warm. The buffet breakfast was delicious with a but variety of food. Just a short drive into Waiuku.
