Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThe pool was closed, which was a bummer. There were no stairs going down into the pool area.
Our room was beautiful, we were upgraded to a villa and it was perfect for our little getaway.

New ZealandSome facilities were a little dated. Sliding doors were hard to shut out Door furniture and area was not clean. Bathroom sink kept dripping and the main light cover was full of dead bugs. You can tell things are slowly changing.
Location was very good staff were friendly and made you feel very welcome.

United KingdomIt is a bit dated in places but this is being addressed by the management and they are currently working through a programme of refurbishment.
The Heads has been renamed to The Sands which we were not informed about and is now under new management - the staff are currently being trained up for the summer season. The location is stunning and lends itself to be a fantastic hotel to stay in for the future.

United StatesThe hotel is now called The Sands which was confusing as our booking was for The Heads. The bathroom had shampoo and conditioner but no soap. Otherwise it was great.
Beautiful location on the beach. The room was comfortable, WiFi was very good. The room had a mini fridge. There is a restaurant but we didn’t use it.

AustraliaI understand I got the room I booked for online, but to put a solo woman traveller at the far end of the property is not the best decision. I do not expect any special favours, but most hotels automatically give solo travellers a room closer to reception. The rooms, and especially the bathrooms, are a little tired and in need of some TLC. It is a shame, as this is such a fantastic location, and the property has such great potential. I hope that at some stage in the future this hotel will become the great hotel it deserves to be.
I was initially given a room a long way from reception, stuck in the back of the property, opposite what seems to be a storage shed. When I asked to move to a room closer to reception, with a ocean view, the lady at reception was very accommodating and friendly and organized for another room immediately.

New ZealandOur room- unit 1- a two bedroom beachfront room was a disgrace. It was filthy, the curtains were hanging on three hooks, the beds were broken. In dire need of refurbishment, I can do old no problem at all but dirty and broken is not ok.
The restaurant and the building that houses it were lovely.

AustraliaThis hotel would be a lovely place to stay if the inside of the rooms were more inviting. For me FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE VERY IMPORTANT but the room needs a lot of TLC. I have worked, supervised, trained staff, (certificates for management) in Surfers Paradise Goldcoast and was very sad and a shame to see this room as it was. There were no cutlery, side plates, to cut my cheese (n crackers,) no toaster.
Location was awesome view looking out to beach/sea/ jetty. Food was good.

New ZealandNothing BEST HOTEL DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE
We booked the deluxe King Studio as it was the last available room & to be honest it was so beautiful & private to our liking, the King Double bed was expecially comfortable, loved how it was the 3 sheet makings. The room was clean & the TV was nice & big for late night movies. The air con was hard to figure out but we didn't let that dim our light we just left the door open 😊 Took me a haka to get the wifi sorted & the Netflix Chromecast connected but we got it with no sweat 😏 you've definitely gotta be a tech geek like myself to get it sorted haha. The staff were extremely kind & very helpful. We wanted to have dinner & the lovely bar staff gave us the table with the best view on the deck, we had a little mess up with our bill where I was given the wrong bill to pay for but I got off with a couple bux & some free deserts thank you to the manager, the young lady & gentlemen who helped us out with that. The view is astonishing & we will definitely be returning. Thank you to all the wonderful staff who welcomed us. We will see you all next time. When we run away from Moerewa & Paihia. I cannot stop going on to my partner about how beautiful Opononi is & he was with me hahaha considering moving. P. S i hope the housekeeping didn't get offended for me basically stripping our whole room & doing half there job, my partner did hahhahaha. Thank you, thank you. Definitely my favorite hotel in NZ

United KingdomThe exterior of the blocks of rooms was shabby and although the room looked superficially clean it had a dirty fridge full of someone else’s food and drink. The bathroom fittings were modern but the window catch was old and broken and the window was too stiff to close and there was nowhere to hang wet towels. Looks as if it has been partly done up but not finished. Dinner was tasty but portions of main courses were small (starters, which we didn’t have looked more generous) and the pavlova was had very small amounts of fruit and cream. The continental breakfast was very poor with instant coffee, thin, lumpy, sourish not at all creamy yoghurt and tasteless tinned fruit. Not worth the money.
It’s a lovely location with direct access to a beach where you can swim ;as well as a small pool). Public areas are nicely finished and the room was spacious and air conditioned. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful.
