Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandFree limited WiFi erratic. No flannels provided - just 1 towel/person. No fresh towels or tea towels or toilet paper or tea & coffee even though we stayed 6 nights so we had to buy our own from the supermarket. No venting system over cooktop in kitchen to remove vapours when cooking. Bunk uncomfortable
Thermal pools had a lovely setting and were very relaxing, steam oven was fun to cook our dinner in, quiet environment, comfy double bed, access to lake, clean accommodation, grassed outside spaces, good swimming pool

IrelandSome pretty directive emails after we booked to let us know special instructions for arrival, but it all worked fine. If you don't stay in a room with a toilet it might be a bit of a walk in the night. Also loose gravel on the road so bring jandals to wear around the site. Room smaller than on website, all the upstairs rooms were small, so just don't plan to spend lots of time in it with kids!
Three mineral pools, one super hot and the other two you could stay in for ages. We stayed in a room with a kitchenette and a toilet so didn't use either the shared kitchen or bathroom facilities. Our room was clean, the sheets were great, the heating was so warm I had to turn it off (in autumn), the towels were very clean, and it had everything - dishwashing liquid, tea towel, hand soap - we didn't need to bring anything. We cooked in the steam cooker and it was great. Staff were helpful and friendly. Saturday night was busy but no noise disturbed us. Walkable to nice coffee shop called third space.

New ZealandThe hot pools were nice and definitely clean but the whole area needs maintenance overall. All the facilities are working but it has a shabby feel to it which would cost a lot overall. The room could do with a thorough clean. Good clean sheets but the kitchen needed a real clean.
The location was great and close to the lake. There was rubbish at the lake side that could have been picked up but there didn't seem to be enough staff to do extras.

New ZealandIn winter you would need more bedding for the bunks or advice to bring more. In summer would be extremely hot due to the position of the room there is minimal airflow. Would benefit from cooling system. Fan did not do anything when we arrived and it had been closed up. Locking fly screens on windows would allow you to leave windows open when away. Again it is very stuffy if have to close everything up. Some hooks to dry towels on as need to reuse them. Fridge is so cold it froze everything so needs to be turned down a bit.
Parking was good until someone parked in our space. Thermal pools, pools and playground Clean showers and toilet. Alternate toilet by the pool. Basic kitchen facilities were fine.

New ZealandA bit more cleanliness with bathrooms, but were acceptable. If staff could please check the cars parking in front of units. We were warned severly of only parking our car in our spot, but when we came back late, we had people parking in our spot that was easily avoidable with their details on the dashboard clearly showing another site number. We had to run the risk of getting towed in the visitor carpark as no one answered the after-hours phone.
Liked the privacy and provided ammendities in unit.

United States· There was no WiFi, although ‘free WiFi’ was listed at the time I booked the room. I noticed they have just updated it to ‘charges apply’ on the site, as there were lots of complaints about that. I’m an avid traveler, and have never encountered this problem. I rely exclusively on wifi when I travel, and this was the very first time I had to get the international package, which was an unplanned expense. In this day and age, it is ridiculous to be charging for wifi. P.S. I think the property would have a higher ranking if it wasn’t for the lack of WiFi.
Cosy Cottage is on the lake, with hot pools and close to town. It’s clean and fairly comfortable for the money (some people might find the rooms small, but we were ok). The kitchen had everything we needed. The property is well-maintained. 10-15 min walk to town. Convenient stores nearby. My friend and I loved the pools and sitting by the lake at the sunset.

New ZealandThe walk to the lake - the pathway was pretty rough for my mom who is disabled. She really struggled. Although having said that, I don’t think it was part of Cozy Cottage land so perhaps not within their rights to maintain it.
It was lovely and clean. The grounds were tidy and accessible. The steam area was awesome. We steamed some food for dinner. Cooked well and fell off the bone. The hot pools were great. One was very hot and the other was reasonably warm.

AustraliaOur toddler could reach the door handle to our cabin and easily let himself out on to the road. Just meant we couldn’t relax as we needed to be on constant guard for that (especially after he realised he could do it and it became a game!).
The 2 bedroom cabin was actually better in person than the photos online suggested. Beds were comfy and kitchenette was clean and useful. Loved being able to walk around the park with our toddler who needed to get outside. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was great.

United StatesIt gets VERY hot inside there was no A/C. It was really difficult to sleep, even with opening windows and doors and trying to cool it down once it got dark. There is only 1 fan, and it is mounted in the living room. It would be much better if each bedroom had a fan.
Cosy Cottage has a little bit of everything! Hot tub, BBQ, lakefront access with hot water beach! We had a 2-bedroom cottage which was really lovely and clean. It was very spacious and had nice kitchen facilities. The location was great- although not walkable to downtown Rotorua, it was only a 5 minute drive from everything. I also appreciated that it felt very safe and quiet.

New ZealandThe bed were too soft for our liking, but you can never get the bed right - it was only for one night and it was ok. check in email information came at 530am the same morning we were going to check in and I didnt pick the email up until I was at the front desk (because we were busy all day), so didnt know to park out the front on the road, and then walk into the office. Would of been nice to get at least 42 hours notice of this - as the being told off at the desk, wouldnt of been the 'welcoming' of our stay. Lucky it didn't put a damper on our stay - but, would've of like to get the heads up early to avoid that embarrassment.
loved the hot pools and wanted to swim later into the night but couldn't because of the closing time. Love the option of the hangi pit - next time we will come organised to use this. Love to be able to go the lake and feel the water and sand - this was awesome! To be able to include another person to our room at such short notice and be accommodated. Loved that! Check in was quick, information given was clear, map was very helpful - even highlighted to our room, where to park, where the amenities were - very good check in!
