Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

New ZealandThe hotel itself has good sound insulation between rooms, but being in the city centre, it's unavoidable to hear the loud noises from street racers late at night, which can disrupt rest. The mattresses are not firm enough, which may not be ideal for guests with back discomfort. It would be better if the mattresses were firmer. The hotel's breakfast is Western-style, which may not cater to those needing Chinese food options. Particular members of my travel group have lactose intolerance, intolerance to dairy products, and cold foods, it would have been better if there were more variety in the meal options.
Awesome location. The hotel is situated in a prime location. Right outside is a pedestrian street, also near Queen Street and Commercial Bay which is just a 2-minute walk away, making shopping quite convenient. However, for self-driving tourists, the hotel does not offer free parking. The Downtown Carpark next door charges about 25 NZD for a day's parking, which can add to the cost of the trip.

Anniversary weekend away. Attentive staff (Syd, Marco, Bry, Emily, Vy, Rosa and Hari), cleanliness of the hotel and outstanding location. Staff went out of their way to make it a memorable anniversary. Will definitely be back. The little touches make it a preferred place to stay.

New ZealandNot a major but I wasn’t a big fan of the writing on the walls of the room, as I felt this took away from the relaxing aspect of it. The bathroom in the room had a faint smell of stagnant, standing water at times, but again not a major issue.
The location is perfect, as it has Britomart/Commercial Bay in one direction and the Viaduct/Wynyard Quarter area in the other direction, both just a few minutes’ walk away. View from the room was lovely, room was very comfortable, it was nice having the bar/restaurant downstairs and the staff were friendly. Nice to have the 24hr reception desk for people checking in late into the night. I also appreciated the call from staff to ask if I was enjoying my stay and if there was anything they could do.
