How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Returning customer. I like Tasman Bay for its atmosphere and the many details that make them a positively unique place to stay at. Lest the pudding ;-). Friendly and helpful staff as always. Clean rooms, well-maintained kitchen and sanitary rooms. It´s just a pleasure to stay there and has been for many years now. Would come back any time.

There was this guy speaking over the phone in the room hallway for like 2 hours while we were trying to sleep
Room was great, common areas are cool and hostel feels full of life, I will go back to rey the chocolate pudding 😁

To be fair, it is a backpackers was a little bit noisy. For Thursday night. Was in the upstairs room, but nothing too really worried about. Good that young people were having fun.

Unit 19 accessible bathroom needs some maintenance work. -Shower rose unit very wobbly. -Vinyl lifting and bubbled in walk-in shower. -Vinyl badly stained by leaking shower controls.
No breakfast provided. Excellent bed and very cosy duvet on cold night.

Location is great. Close to shops and bars. Staff are friendly and keep the place tidy. Big kitchen, comfy beds and nice showers. Decent seating areas both inside and out. Can't forget about the chocolate pudding!

Really great hostel, vibey communal space, and comfy room (I had a private). The staff were very accommodating - given I arrived late, and they also provided me with a space heater to dry out my wet things after the torrential rain. Would certainly stay again.

On our floor it seemed there were only 2 womens toilets and it felt as though they were always occupied when I went to use them - I didn't explore any further down the corridors though so there could've been more that I just hadn't found
The backpackers had a very friendly feel which was facilitated by the kind staff at reception who offered us feijoa fruit to try, as well as the ample lounge space which was nicely decorated. The kitchen had 3 large fridges and a lot of space to cook. There were a decent amount of showers too which had proper locks and felt private.

Nice staff as well as the hosts. Good ambience in the common areas. Easy laundry. Room ok. A bit noisy because the walls are thins and everything is “clinging”. But, I’ll repeat again within doubts.

Only downside is walls are super thin so bring ear plugs.

Not sockets next to bed. The only but I found. Nice experience overall!
Stuff was so lovely! They offer chocolate pudding at night timeeee! First time I've ever seen that in a hostel. Room was cosy and nice. Baths simples but cover the need perfectly well. Lovely garden and good design.

The kitchen felt a little run down and in need of a freshen up but generally was okay.
Really friendly staff and lovely relaxing hostel. There’s a good number of bathrooms and the beds are generally comfy and great value for money. The chocolate pudding in the evening is an incredible added touch.

Some rooms by the laundry can be a bit noisy.
This is such a welcoming, friendly and comfortable backpackers. I have stayed here several times over the last few months and am always greeted with a smile and a warm welcome, especially by Fran, who is great and so helpful. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The chocolate pudding in the evening is a brilliant chance to sit, relax and chat with other travellers. This is by far the best backpackers in Nelson and I highly recommend it!

Lovely lounge area with lots of books, board games and comfy sofas! Free choc pudding in the evening as well which was a lovely surprise. Staff were super friendly avd helpful. Room was great, comfy beds and clean toilet and shower facilities.
