It was a little difficult to find the home and maneuver through the small town streets, but neighbors were helpful and friendly.

Very nice guest house with common kitchen, dining and sitting areas. Breakfast and snacks were very generous and delicious. Hosts were very friendly and patient with our language differences. Great place to stay to explore the Serra Estrela mountains, which were beautiful!

The room was pretty small.

The room had a comfy bed and a nice little balcony with mountain view (due to very bad weather we couldn't use it, unfortunately). Downstairs there is a nice seating area with an oven which we used to get dry and warm up after some very rainy hikes. The guest house is located right at the little stream flowing through Manteigas, so restaurants and shops are right around the corner. (We recommend Infusao, just a couple of steps up the stream from the guest house.) The breakfast was amazing and very extensive, even when only us two were left at the hotel. Best thing: we could pack bread etc for lunch, tea and coffee were always available downstairs, as was the amazing home-made cake. We were looking forward to this after every hike.

It's not a major issue but if you come with a lot of luggage (we travelled around for 2 weeks), the room can be a bit small. There's basically just a bed and a cupboard but you'll find a table and chairs on the terrace and could always stay in the kitchen / living room if you want more space. As we went there for hiking, we spent our time mainly outside anyways. In October the days in the mountains are warm and sunny but the nights can be a bit chilly, so we had wet windows in the morning. No big deal for us and common in Portugal but maybe some people mind!?

Phew... Everything?! :-) This little gem is one of the best places I've stayed and it's such a good value for money. Josefa and Lourdes are wonderful souls who put so much effort into everything: food, cleaning, recommendations... You'll feel at home in an instant. Lourdes speaks also English and you can always practise your Portuguese, so communication is no problem at all. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, the breakfast was EXTRAORDINARY with so many yummy and self-made things and Josefa and Lourdes make sure nothing is missing. The breakfast cake will also wait for you in the afternoon. ;) Manteigas itself is a sweet little mountain village with nice shops, cafés and restaurants and great hikes around. We stayed 3 nights (I think) and I would recommend to stay at least the same time. :-) Queridas senhoras: Obrigadissima pela sua atenção e maneira carinhosa durante a nossa visita. A bit tricky to find in amongst the narrow streets so good idea to check out the photograph of the front of the property beforehand , so you can look out for it . There is a one way system in that area so we had to go round the block a couple of times before we spotted it .

Our first visit to Manteigas, so we read lots of reviews on local accommodation before choosing Casa d’Avenida and happily, we were delighted with our choice . Although she didn’t speak a word of English , Josefa was welcoming , smiling and friendly and we communicated with a mixture of gestures, pointing and Google translate, plus a short phone conversation with her English speaking daughter on arrival , who welcomed us and asked us what time we would like breakfast. The room was compact but offered everything we needed, more importantly it was sparklingly clean , modern and nicely furnished . The en-suite was modern and again , scrupulously clean . Josefa recommended a nice restaurant for our first evening, Serradalto , less than 10 minutes walk , with breathtaking views over the valley and excellent value for money . Breakfast was a fabulous selection of cheeses, cold meats , bread rolls , croissants , preserves , fruit , freshly squeezed orange juice, selection of teas and hot coffee. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this little gem to anyone wanting a good value stay in Manteigas offering a genuine Portuguese welcome .

Everything. The owners are extremely friendly and talkative; at the same time, quite respectful of your privacy (e.g. when having your breakfast). They treated us with some tasty pastries on our arrival. The house is absolutely beautiful and super comfortable. The bedroom was very nice and the bathroom huge. The breakfast was big and delicious.

Rooms are a bit too small, but if you aren’t only planning to sleep there and spend days out, that’s not a problem. unfortunately we don’t speak Portuguese and there was a bit of a language barrier with the owners, but they did all they can to welcome us and help

Great location right in the middle of Sierra de Estrella, excellent place to stay for a few days and enjoy the nature, explore the mountains around. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff! Good breakfast, tea, coffee, cakes and fruits available entire day.

Nothing honestly, just a slight remark on the mould inside the bathroom, but I understand how humidity can easily leave some stains because of the hot/cold temperatures.

Pretty much everything! The room was very clean and comfortable, nice bathroom, the common hall was very cozy and warm, though it wasn’t as much cold as we expected. The breakfast was simply amazing and of course, D. Lurdes and D. Zefa were the best hosts ever, I miss them already!
