A hidden gem. Wonderful accommodation in a mansion that looks like an old palace. The feeling is like being a guest on the set of a movie where you play the royal couple. The hosts went out of their way to answer all our requests. The breakfast was excellent, with a lot of fresh fruit that was cut especially for us.

This guest house is located half an hour's walk from the center of Amarante in a very beautiful area. The house is simply gorgeous, huge and full of interesting antique elements. The landlord is warm-hearted and very nice. We were greeted with wine, cheese and marmalade - it was very pleasant. Breakfast was amazing, very filling and tasty. I’m very grateful for the welcome and kindness, I would like to wish landlords all the best)

We loved everything.

After a long day at the Douro valley, the accommodation at Casa do Fontão was what we needed and could not have imagined! We did a last minute reservation and when we arrived, a glass of wine with some cheese and Marmelade was expecting us, from the nice and sweet host of this beautiful place. The room was cosy and spacious with a comfortable bed and warm blankets, as the weather has not been the best during our stay in Portugal. The next morning a generous breakfast was prepared by the host for us, in a beautiful old-style living room, next to a piano. We would definitely stay there again!

A beautifully furnished newly renovated old mansion. Great room, amazing bedding and a magic view. The lady owner was really special. From a welcome cheese and wine, a beatifull room, through a great breakfast that we could never finish, to wishing us a safe journey. She even walked us out to our car with an umbrella in rainy weather. We could not have wished for more.

The house is beautiful inside and out. We were greeted with wine and cheese in the dining room. Very large room and bathroom with a huge soaker tub. Breakfast was delicious.

Casa do Fontao in Amarante Portugal is amazing place to stay. Dona Luiza is wonderful Lady with huge heart she is like a Mama for everyone. We will never forget her. The house is tastefully decorated with high quality antiques furniture bedroom was large and very clean with our own bathroom.Outdoor area is beautiful with fantastic views Breakfast was excellent including service 👌. It is difficult to drive out of the property uphill, but has nothing to do with the hotel, it's the landscape.

It's a beautiful boutique hotel with large garden and a stunning view on the hills and town. The whole house interior is a manor style antiquities and furniture. The room and the bathroom look royal and are very clean. The hosts are very polite and friendly and offer welcome meal (wine and cheese). Breakfast is very tasty and plentiful and served in marvelous room.

We were greeted with wine, cheese and jam in a lovely terrace, which was an amazing way to begin our stay. The house itself has a unique style. The room and the bathroom were spacious and very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was really great and Louisa the host was super kind and helpful. We highly recommend and wish we stayed more!

Absolutely everything. The building is beautifully furnished and maintained, we were offered the opportunity to choose our own room- all of which were different but equally stunning. The host insisted we have some cheese, wine and homemade quince at a time to suit us. We elected to have this in the early evening on the beautiful terrace overlooking the well kept large garden and the green valley below - a great view to enjoy. The breakfast was simply the best we have ever been offered with a huge array of prepared fruits including orange, pineapple, melon and banana. Fresh bread rolls, cooked ham and traditional jamón and sliced cheese. Also cakes - and large individual pots if freshly made tea or coffee. And even scrambled eggs were offered as well! Nothing was too much bother and we had the full run of the house and gardens.

We had a wonderful time, and I recommend anyone who travels to Amarante to stay here! The place is beautiful and decorated in a unique way, But most of all, the owner is so nice and welcoming! It was a pleasure to meet her and she gave us an amazing local experience! ❤️ definitely exceeded our expectations!!

Nothing could have been better.

Amarante is beautiful and we liked everything at Casa Fontao. This is our third visit. Louisa is the perfect host and Casa do Fontao is exceptional in every way. The bedrooms are large, beautifully furnished in traditional Portuguese style and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfasts are delicious. Louisa made our stay at Casa do Fontao, special in every way. A big 'thank you' Louisa for making my wife and I, plus our friends, so welcome during our third visit.

It’s not walking distance to town, you’ll need to drive down to the river area. But it’s not far.

The room was large and so much better than we expected, especially for this price! The house is old and charming, with such attention to details. Beautifully furnished with antiques and high quality furniture. The room and whole house was very clean. The host is so sweet and helpful, too.
