Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TurkeyIt wasn’t easy to communicate with the host.
It was clean, central and the room was functional. There were lots of restaurants and bars in the street where the room was located.

CanadaDid I miss the fact that this was a 4 floor walk-up? We were right on the square, over numerous bars and restaurants. The noise was unbearable, -- until the rains started.
There was no staff. thankfully, the instructions to gain entry were good.

CanadaNo coffee maker. No kettle. No coffee cups.
Great location in the centre of the old city. Clean and quite modern interior. Good AC and heat. Lots of windows. Ours was up 2 levels from the ground floor and faced the rear of the building. Quiet at the back. Large modern shower stall. Pay parking on roads M-F from 9-7. Sat 9-1. Sunday is free all day. The restaurant next door Dona Petisca is amazing.

CanadaLocation was excellent. The room has everything you need. The beds are singles, the "double or Queen bed" as advertised is 2 x singles pushed together without any bridge mattress, so that's not very comfortable, but worked for me for 1 night. Anyone needing to sleep in the middle of the bed wouldn't have been happy with it. There are several bars outside and below, but the room is so noise proofed that we didn't hear a peep. The balcony on the top floor looks out, not down, as there is a roof overhang that sticks out a few feet. But the view outward is excellent. If you want to see the street as well, request the 2nd floor. Very clean, and good bang for buck.

United KingdomThe bathroom was small but if you’re only staying a couple nights, it’s not really a problem.
The location is superb. It is a stones throw from the Cathedral and above a number of reasonably priced bars serving both food and drinks. Despite this, the property is fairly quiet and you cannot hear any outdoor noise - only the noise of other guests. The room itself was nicely decorated (slightly different to the pictures but equally as nice) and had a very comfortable bed. Granted, it was pretty small but we knew this prior to booking and I wouldn’t let it put you off.

United StatesWhen I arrived the floors were not clean, with lots of dust and hair. I found the cleaning person and told her, but she didn't speak english. I asked to borrow a broom and dustpan so I could sweep the floor myself. I took a picture and showed her the amount of dust/hair and she just said 'ok'. Some of the furniture should have been dusted as well, like the bathroom caddy. There is a tiny attic unit that is connected by a door in the studio I was in, though the door was locked. If people are occupying the attic unit, it's possible to hear what they're doing and saying, if you catch my drift. There wasn't an electric kettle or toaster in the kitchenette as stated. Right away I messaged the owner regarding this and the dirty floor. No apology at all for either issue, but the did deliver a new electric kettle and toaster the next morning as stated.
One of the few hotels/vacation rentals in Portugal that provide wash cloths! The bathroom was sufficient by providing an open shelf-style cabinet to put toiletry bag(s), etc., plus a ladder-style towel rack that could also be used for hanging wet clothing. The bed was supposed to be a full, but it's actually 2 twins pushed together, so you really can't lay in the middle. However, the mattress was comfortable and there were good pillows. There was a kitchenette that came in handy, though it could use a few more amenities, like a bigger frying pan. The one provided is maybe 5-6 inches. There's a balcony to sit outside that faces the square down below where the church is, but the view is obstructed by a low wall, which is the roof for the overhang below. It's also noisy to sit on the balcony because of the lively bar/restaurant activity below, which can go on until 1am or so. I'm glad I travel with ear plugs. The location is great for restaurants, churches, etc., plus a small grocery store a couple blocks away with fresh legs/fruit and some meat, cheese, etc.

United KingdomI would've liked the flexibility of early check in /late check out but I do understand that sometimes it is not possible. I would've preferred a double sized bed rather than 2 single beds
Great central location. We were in Braga for a friend's wedding and the accommodation at Braga Bells was great and suited our trip perfectly. Very clean, the room and bathroom were very good size, nice small kitchen. We did have the flexibility of dropping the luggage earlier before check-in time which was greatly appreciated and it made a huge difference

PortugalLack of responsiveness from the owner. I texted a couple of times with questions, the first was answered after quite a while, and the second got no reply at all. There is no elevator, so it was challenging for my mother with mobility problems to go in and out of the room. There is no reception, so no chance of leaving your bags if you arrive early or have a late train after checkout. A kettle would be a welcome addition to the room.
There were two rooms and three beds, so plenty of space and privacy for two guests. The place was clean and there was a refrigerator. Our room was quiet, facing an indoor patio. It had good insulation from the windows and plenty of natural light. Location was perfect, right in front of Sé. Self check-in was simple and efficient.

CanadaLocation. Even though it was in the centre of the action, no one knew where it was. Even the police. That the street name is not posted on the street, does not help. What was worse, is that no one who staffs the “hotel”, was available to help. I messaged them in advance, for directional support, but they did not reply. I also messaged them that I would be arriving before the 3 pm check in time, but when I tried to check in at 2:50, there was no key. Again, no one to help. It was all very nerve wracking. This concept of a staffless hotel is a nightmare. It doesn’t work. But it’s everywhere in Portugal. Maybe it’s everywhere in the world now, but this is the first time I have ever experienced this, over and over and over again, in the same country- and I have years of international travel experience. Let’s fix this. We just need more transparency. Peace.,
Location.

Hong KongIt is located in the historic centre which makes parking really difficult if you have a rental car. There is no lift so we had to walk 3 flights of stairs with our luggage.
Very centrally located. There are a few cafes and bars right underneath - we like that but it can also be a bit noisy for those who don’t. The room was clean and big enough. There was a nice little balcony to hang out.
