Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaNothing.
Absolutely stunning location. All rooms have a view of the Douro River/Valley. Rooms well appointed - good size and lots of storage. Service was outstanding - the staff did whatever they could to make our stay more enjoyable. They recommended a wonderful day trip tour which included a river cruise, wine tasting with lunch (what a feast!) as well as a fantastic scenic drive of the Douro Valley. Had a wonderful tasting menu dinner in the dining room - excellent food. Breakfasts were excellent as well. A wonderful, relaxing two day stay.

PortugalNothing at all.
The view of the room and hotel was spectacular. The room was very comfortable, very silent, had a perfect temperature, comfortable bed. Breakfast was outstanding, with wonderful fresh fruit and bread and all different kinds of little cakes, and cheese and hams of quality. The orange juice was splendid. The restaurant had good food and the bar wonderful snacks. The location is perfect since you are nearby Peso da Regua and the splendid monumental city of Lamego.

United KingdomThe service levels, in all aspects, FOH, dining, pool area, bar was by no means 4*. They are clearly trying but at this early stage just not there, even though they are charging premium prices. An example is the pool area music. It is provided by placing a ghetto blaster at an upper window and blaring out quite high energy music. It starts at 10am no matter what. On our last morning there was just us (2 x 50 year olds) and another even older couple relaxing by the pool until it was time to depart. But that ghetto blaster was still turned on at 10am regardless. This is what I mean by service levels, no initiative, just following process. The food in the restaurant was okay but expensive compared to town and far inferior.
The location is stunning, the rooms adequate, although I would not say 4* The pool is lovely. The dining area from a view perspective is amazing. The infrastructure of the place and initial investment is very high but the finishing touches are poor.

United KingdomSee above.
Food was excellent; so was service. But the rooms did not have the facilities I associate with 4/5 star. No tissues, no coffee machine - not even an electric kettle when I requested it! Worst - we were 2 people and when we asked for a second bottle of water we were told it would ‘extra’!

NetherlandsWhen the hotel was fully booked, it seemed that there weren't enough staff to keep up with the number of guests. On those days, the staff which was usually polite, seemed stressed and unfriendly. The sunbeds by the pool were hard. I would recommend either changing them to material ones (instead of plastic), or providing fitting mattresses. In the afternoons, there was a strong sewage smell from the open bathroom. The safe was not fixed to the cabinet and, in case of a robbery, it could be easily taken away. There was no room service or kettle facilities. Due to covid, the spa services were not available, which was not a problem for us, but some can see it as a disadvantage. In the morning, it was impossible to find a free sunbed by the pool. Luckily, around noon, it got less crowded. Given all of the above, the price-quality ratio for this hotel, during our stay, was just bad.
I liked the size of the room, comfortable bed, and spending days by the pool with delicious cocktails - caipirinha was my personal favorite. As the hotel is in a driving distance from any of the surrounding towns, it was nice to have bar and restaurant meal options. Bar serves snacks, burgers and francesinha (all ranging from 4 to 15 EUR). Restaurant has more fancy options from 18.50 to approx. 23 EUR for a single dish. The view from the hotel is beautiful. Unfortunately, there is a new building being constructed in front of the swimming pool which messes with the visual experience. On ground floor, there are lime and orange trees planted in front of the room terraces. For those who prefer a better view at the river from their rooms, the small balconies would probably be a better choice. As for me, I enjoyed having extra space outside to stretch my legs and enjoy the late August morning and evening weather.

United KingdomThe problem in the room was that there were a few items that were loose in the bathroom which should have been fixed before the arrival of a clients (basin tap handle, toilet seat, shower soap basket & towel hook which was unusable & that was the only place to hang 2 towels). Most of the staff were officious.
The view over the Douro Rover was great from the terrace or from the room with its own verandah leading onto a grass section infront of a row of vines. The room was fine except for a couple of problems (see below). The breakfast was good and well presented, served in a covid-acceptable way by staff and there was a good choice.
