I liked everything. Starting with the warm welcome glass of wine from the owner, receiving a detailed map of area so we could plan the day ahead, very clean washrooms, kitchen and bedroom, amazing garden on the roof and ending with a friendly hug from the hosts. The facility is finished perfectly with all kinds of details. I have even seen instructions how to use a toilet for the first time in my life. I think this a great idea. :) I also liked a USB plug on the wall and a small basket attached to a wall next to bed for a cell phone I also found a flashlight inside of the basket. I really admire that the hosts tried to meet all expectations.

Pedro & Sarah, the owners, were super helpful with lots of great tips of places to go. They even were kind enough to wash and dry some clothes for me, and lent me a yoga mat to do my morning practice on the roof garden.

The only thing I did not like was that we did not stay longer.

My daughter and I was welcomed by our hosts, Pedro and Sarah, with a glass of ice-cold wine, which was just what we needed after our journey to Pinhao and a short, but hot walk from the charming little train station. The four-bed dorm was ours for two nights, which were very kind of the hosts as they could have filled up one dorm. The hostel - bathrooms and kitchen - was extremely clean. Although we did not book breakfast, there were great coffee, cereals and yoghurt on offer and free to all. The best was the terrace on top where we spend a wonderful time with the owner, Pedro, and other travellers. The map with hiking trails and places to visit and best shops and restaurants, shared by Pedro, was also very valuable. The hosts really added value to our stay.There were even beers and wine with an honesty box, which was great. I am going back.

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in in Portugal, if not the world. Pedro is an experienced traveller and it shows. The rooms are clean and well appointed, beds are comfy, and the hosts are exceptional. The courtyard and terraced garden are a particular highlight, a lovely spot to gather and enjoy some company after a day of exploring (and wine tasting). The WiFi is excellent and there are spots to work in- and outside, so it’s a great choice for digital nomads, too!

Everything was perfect. Best hostel we have stayed in, extremely clean, great aircon, honesty system close to train station. A big mention to Pedro & Sara who make you feel right at home as you arrive, welcoming us with refreshing drinks and smiles. The tiered rooftop Terrace is a great space to meet new travellers and also have some time out for yourself.

Literally everything, but most of all, Pedro and Sara. The atmosphere they’ve created at the hostel is unlike any other. This makes sense because they live there and treat you like a guest and not as a customer like many hostels do. The location is perfect, pinhão is so beautiful, and they do everything in their ability to make sure you have the best time, guiding you to all the different hikes and eateries - even providing you with a custom map of pinhão. In addition, the rooftop with its views and vegetation is spectacular. This has to be one of the, if not the best hostel/property I have ever stayed at. Leaving. Wished we had booked there for more nights.

When we arrived, the owners Petro and Sarah awaited us with a glass of cold white wine. They went out of their way to make us comfortable. Petro gave us a map of all the what to see in Pinhoa. They have an open bar for which you put money in an honest box, which was nice after hours. Best of all was the top floor on the roof where we spent many hours talking and meeting new people. Stunning views from the top. Lovely restaurants.

We had an amazing time staying with Pedro & Sara! They were super friendly and had the best tips on where to go in Pinhão and the Douro valley. This hostel is clearly being run by people who love what they’re doing and who have a clear vision of what creates a good hostel. The roof terrace and other facilities were also amazing! I highly recommend this hostel to anyone traveling to Pinhão. And definitely listen to Pedro’s tips ;)

We loved everything! The location is perfect for exploring the region. The hosts were exceptional - the best welcome we have had. We enjoyed walking, a river trip, a wine tasting, a fabulous lunch in Veladouro and a superb train ride along the beautiful river. This is much more than a hostel - Pedro & Sara welcome you into their special place and allow you to enjoy hospitality - with an honesty box! We especially loved our welcome refreshing drink!

The location was absolutely amazing and Pedro and Sara are really nice and super helpful. Specially thank you to Sara who was a real angel and fixed my dress (that broke when I was getting dressed) right before I went to my friend's wedding. I loved everything! The house is clean and well maintained, Sarah and Pedro welcomed everyone with warmth and openness, it felt like I came to stay with old friends and just enjoy the time together, fun evenings on the roof top under the stars. They gave us all wholehearted recommendations for trips in the area, and the recommendations were excellent. The price was more than fair, and it felt more like contributing your share in the household expenses than a payment. The place and the people were an inseparable part of Pinhao for me and I hope I can go back there for another wonderful experience. Sarah and Pedro are stunning! Thank you very much!

Our stay at Hostel Douro Backpackers was terrific! Pedro and Sara were super helpful and gave great recommendations for things to do in Pinhão. The property had excellent facilities and a wonderful terrace and garden with great views. We will definitely be coming back again in the future!

Amazing hospitality from Pedro and Sarah ! They greeted us with a wine or beer before asking for our passports and payment which shows the kind of people they are! Spotless room which was comfy and had all the amenities! Amazing social but calm hostel which is all about chats more than parties . Definitely must stay here ! Advise about where to eat and where to go was outstanding ! And breakfast was well equiped with espresso coffee and fresh fruit ! Will be back!

Friendly and welcoming hosts. It feels like you are a long lost friend. I was greeted with a big smile by Pedro. The house is extremely clean and modern. Bed was comfortable. I slept very well. The view from my dorm is exceptional. I would come back just for that. Sara and Pedro are amazing people.. lucky we didn't get apples thrown in our direction haha

A beautiful clean modern hostel with a stunning roof terrace. Great helpful hosts and a complimentary breakfast. Central location if you are arriving by train. They've an honesty box system which works great if you want to grab some beer or wine to enjoy on the terrace as there's not much nice bars in the village.

Definitely the best hostel experience I've ever had! Pedro and Sara are incredible and make everyone feel at home. They will take care of you from the moment you enter their door (with a welcome glass of wine!) to the very end of your stay or even trip. They are also the best guides in the area and will recommend you amazing food, hiking routes and activities not to miss in Pinhao.The hostel itself is in a great location within a walking distance from the train station, boat tours, quintas and much more! Spotless clean, spacious and additionally, you can enjoy your cup of coffee on the terrace with a stunning view. The kitchen is well equipped and also, the owners share the food & drinks with their guest (you pay what you can to the honesty box). All in all, absolutely the best stay you can imagine and Pedro & Sara make it unforgettable with their hospitality! I should probably mention as well that when I got lost during my hike and panicked around a few stray dogs, Pedro immediately came to pick me up and made sure I knew my way back. You've created not only a hostel, but home, for everyone who's visited you. Hope to stay with you again guys!
