Sara and Pedro were really exceptional hosts. Very friendly, kind, generous and informative. There were many unexpected additional services based on an honesty box. The facilities were excellent and the hostel was spotless. A really top class experience to be highly recommended!

It was all outstanding!

Warm and friendly hosts Pedro & Sara made me feel right at home with a personal welcome and tour of the hostel. They thought of everything when renovating the hostel from the 2 squeaky clean bathrooms per floor, to USB ports and lights for each bed. Such a generous, positive and caring atmosphere. Can't recommend enough! It's really worthwhile staying the night in Douro rather than rushing through on a day trip. I could walk and soak up the views of vineyards with new friends.

A fantastic place to stay in every way. Pedro and Sara are brilliant hosts with lots of fantastic local recommendations for walks and information. The hostel is absolutely immaculate with a beautiful roof terrace with orange and lemon trees. To have breakfast supplies in the morning and local wines in the evening were unexpected and much appreciated 😊

I had an amazing stay in this hostal. The hosts Pedro & Sara are very welcoming and they have lots of amazing tips so share. You will feel at home right away. The most beautiful hostel on my trip around the world so far and an absolute recommendation. If you're looking for a place where you can slow down, feel like you're part of a family and love the idyll, then this is the place for you. Pedro and Sarah make you feel very welcome and are always there for you. Both are passionate travellers and you can see that in the details. Everything has been thought of and yet kept simple. Everything is clean and looks brand new, the garden and roof terrace are an absolute dream. I will definitely be back.

An amazing experience on all fronts. Awesome location just a 5 minute walk from the train station. Beautiful place with a very well equiped kitchen, nice living area, amazing terrace with beers in a fridge and lemon trees to zest up your drink. The rooms and bathrooms are well maintained and clean at all times. Pedro and Sarah was extremely welcoming and friendly and Pedro gave an amazing run-down of all the tips and tricks I needed to know about Pinhão to make it the best experience ever. Oh, and they offer you breakfast even though its not mentioned in the description.

Everything was nice

The spot is amazing, the owners were absolutely gorgeous, kind and so warmly welcoming. Very attentive to create a community and not just people passing by in a hostel. You got to know the name of all the other resident, share a moment with them on the beautiful roof top terrasse. When I called to inform we would arrive a bit late, he answered the phone by first saying my name, which absolutely surprised me cause I never called there before, for me it was a sign of attention towards all the people they are hosting and indeed when we met them in person it confirmed that it was a special place where every details are prepared with care and love. And this applies to the welcoming, to the cleaning, to the way they renovate the house, to the breakfast, to the care they put into choosing every object, to their generosity, to the info they give you on the area and so on! A sincere thanks for such an amazing moment.

Pedro and Sara were incredible hostel hosts, going above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable experience in Pinao. Their warm hospitality and extensive knowledge of the area allowed us to uncover hidden gems, from breathtaking hikes to mouthwatering local cuisine. Every top highlight of our trip came from their heartfelt recommendations. Our room was not only comfortable but also beautifully modern, and the entire hostel was impeccably clean, reflecting their dedication to providing a pristine environment. One of the most delightful surprises was the rooftop orchard, brimming with oranges and lemons that guests were welcome to enjoy. We couldn't resist engorging ourselves with citrus in the mornings. What truly set Backpackers apart was the profound sense of community that Pedro and Sara fostered. The atmosphere was so warm and inviting that it felt more like a reunion with dear friends and family at their private orchard rather than a stay at a public hostel. We left feeling rejuvenated and also deeply connected to the wonderful people we met during our time there.

At first glance, the price for a bed in a shared hostel dorm in a small area might seem a bit high for some, but as mentioned above the hostel offers so much more than a bed and well beyond what I assumed. As noted on Booking, I think most of the dorms are mixed gender, but accommodations were sweetly at least attempted to avoid this depending on the number of reservations which I appreciated.

It's hard to imagine my time in Pinhão without Hostel Douro Backpackers. Pedro and Sara worked tirelessly to provide a warm welcome from literally the moment you walked in. Pedro's welcome drink and presentation provided all essential information including a map to local hikes, restaurant suggestions, and local must-dos. A lovely terrace garden full of orange and lemon trees provided a private oasis, especially in the afternoon sun. The location is conveniently located, but also a bit off from the main tourist center. Also, the hostel was perhaps the cleanest I have ever stayed, and it offered well beyond what I expected based on Booking.

The hosts were exceptional in every way. I especially liked how Pedro gave me maps with places to hike, to eat, to experience wine tastings, etc. The hostel k was exceptional with a kitchen, tables for eating, a refrigerator for guests. On the upper level of the hostel is a wonderful terrace with tables, a beverage refrigerator, a clothes washing space and a garden. A great place to socialize with the hotel hosts and guests. I’ve stayed at a lot of hostels in Portugal and Spain. I rate this as my number one hostel stay.

When I arrived, I was welcomed by the owners straight away and I immediately felt at ease. Pedro recommended all the nice places in the area and sent me some hiking trails which were beautiful. Everything was super clean and especially the terrace and garden were beautiful.

To be honest: nothing!

In Douro Backpackers you feel that the staff has had all the experiences of backpacking themselves and turned it into the very best practice you can imagine. We felt more than welcome from the very moment we opened the door until the heartfelt goodbye. It is the perfect location to meet up with other travellers, the roofterrace and the breakfastroom are ideal spots for this purpose. We never in our whole lifes (which are pretty long, with lots of travelling) have never come across a place like this. Go there and see for yourselves!

Douro is a spectacular region and their hostel sits right in the middle of bliss. An extremely close walk to one of the best wineries in the world + very quick to the train station. Pedro and Sara were so kind and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Hostel. Pedro and Sara are great hosts. They make you feel as a part of their family. Pedro also provided several recommendations on restaurants and hiking in the Pinhao valley and helped with booking wine tastings. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. The hostel also has a beautiful terrace garden with nice views. I highly recommend this place and look forward to visit them again.
