Evening meals were poor value, food disappointed in flavour and texture. Irregular paths round garden and between main house and annexe with modern bathrooms might challenge some guests with mobility issues, as might lack of handrail on 3 stone steps up to reception and 4 wooden steps down to breakfast room.

The pathways were a little difficult to walk along because of the cobblestone. It would be quite hard going for people who have mobility difficulties.

The pool was undergoing repairs which they said would be only 2 days but was unavailable our entire stay. They said they would make arrangements at one of the community spas but they weren’t very convenient.

The restraunts were excellent with a variety of formality to accommodate everyone. Staff was very personable. Grounds and views were beautiful.

Fixed price restaurant can become hectic. Limited alternative restaurants within easy walking distance although taxis readily available.

Location was a bit out of the way.

The breakfasts were really good, as was the meals at the pool bar. The hotel was a little out of the way which meant a car ride into and back from the centre as it was quite steep and some of the walk had no path. Reception staff were extremely helpful, booking excursions and taxis and answering questions.

Nothing for me-(but I suggest it would not appeal to families with younger children as is set up for peaceful relaxation and an older demographic . not a playground, jungle gym or water slide in sight.)

Peaceful family run, 200 yr old Quinta out of the ‘holiday strip hotels’ with all modern conveniences. wonderful large suite and beautiful gardens. Full of antiques and paintings. Excellent food and superb staff. Choice of three places to eat in hotel grounds including separate al a carte restaurant.Hotel runs a minibus to Town . Old fashioned ‘colonial’ charm. absolute gem.

Although the swimming pool was said to be heated , it was only 24 degrees,which was too cold for us to swim in. The walk to Funchal was around 35 minutes down a very steep hill. The walk back up was tough ,involving very steep hills.

The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The room we had was tidy and spacious. The catering provided was varied and tasty,including the breakfast that was provided. The hotel was situated in a quiet spot. it only cost €10 to get a taxi down to Funchal and the hotel did provide a regular bus down on Monday to Friday The views across the bay were beautiful

An old manor house set in centennial tropical garden, do beautiful. The staff was outstanding, the grounds and pool inspiring, an oasis of calm. Like a movie set.Rooms are good size, marble bathrooms, french doors that open to garden view.
