United KingdomThere were many issues during our stay and these were poorly handled by the staff. - the entire TV system went down on our first night there, making it tricky to order food as the menu was on there. TV only came back the next day. - every order made to room service for breakfast and dinner were incorrect or incomplete (missing items, wrong items etc). As the new building is quite far from the kitchen it took extensive time to arrive - staff were very junior and inexperienced for a hotel of that calibre. No bottle opener for the drinks, no replacement waters, and housekeeping only came at 3pm. - we requested a late checkout (extra 2 hours) upon arrival as my wife heavily pregnant and going to the hospital directly from there 2 days later, and were told on the day of checkout that it wouldn’t be possible at all ! - on top of the 1000€ for a two-night stay, they charged us an additional 25€ per day for parking which is unheard of for a luxury hotel and such a poor business practice.
The location of the hotel and the ocean view from the new building are excellent. A few minute walk from both Foz and Matosinhos.

United KingdomOcean View room was on the ground floor with zero view of the ocean!! This needs to be clear when booking - not all Ocean View rooms have an ocean view yet are priced at the same higher rate?! À La Carte food at breakfast is very disappointing - often lukewarm and served on cold plates. Also, can wait for quite some time on it arriving at the table!

There was no update and we were left waiting for over an hour. There did not seem to be any urgency and the staff seemed unaware and unprepared for receiving the new guests.

IrelandStaff has serious attitude problems (specifically at the breakfast and bar area) giving us dirty looks and being rude whenever we asked for anything. We did not feel welcome at the hotel and because of their attitude we made more effort to leave the hotel to eat and drink elsewhere. Which was a pity because hotel was so beautiful we wished we enjoyed it more.
The hotel was absolutely beautiful, breakfast was also delicious. Enjoyed the spa area. Location was also amazing, right by the beach and of walking distance to pharmacy and other cafes and restaurants.

SwitzerlandIf you like booming pop music all day in all the public areas, this hotel is for you. But if you are looking for somewhere relaxing and tranquil avoid. Even on the balcony the music was ever present all day and in the restaurant too.
Overall the hotel was comfortable, the staff efficient and friendly, the breakfast very good but food in the restaurant disappointing - unimaginative for allergy sufferers.

United StatesBathroom smelled like sewage for 2 nights and there were drain flies in the room and bathroom the entire stay. Room was very small. Breakfast was ok. Aside from the reception staff and one member of the grounds - Giovanni the staff made us feel extremely uncomfortable as if they were watching everything we did. Also the bartender and grounds staff were very impersonal and came across as rude. For the money and experience this was by far a huge disappointment and I cannot recommend this hotel unless you like to feel like you are in the presence of mafia security, like dark rooms that smell like sewage and are infested with drain flies. The only thing that this hotel has going for it is the history and design elements.

IrelandPillows were extremely uncomfortable and lead to two nights of no sleep-if you are sensitive to pillows I would suggest bringing your own. There are no facilities to iron clothes in the room so expect to pay at least €8 per garment if you would like it ironed. Wi fi code was not actively given and not overtly obvious so ask at reception.
Breakfast was good. Spa/pool facilities were excellent. Location immediately across from the beach was great and very close to Airport via taxi.

IsraelMy first disappointment was the small size of the room for an hotel of this standing and given the high price they charge... I expected a bath too, but it was just a shower. Then to receive the same type of breakfast service as other people, i had to go 3 times to the reception and ask 3 times to the staff of the breakfast to get some decent vegan options that are not just some fruits. Eventually they prepared something but having to ask to so much staff was avoidable. Good vegan alternatives should be a standard in 5 stars hotels. I think for an hotel of this level and this price it could have been better.

United KingdomShocking hotel management. My wife’s necklace was stolen from our locked room, after housekeeping had been to clean one evening (the only time the room was cleaned in 3 days, incidentally). I understand this kind of thing happens on occasion. But the response of hotel staff was appalling when we reported it, and in no way in keeping with a hotel that purports to be 5 star. They discouraged us from contacting the police, and in fact charged us when we did call them. There was no investigation, or reassurances as to how this may be addressed with housekeeping staff. No manager spoke to us at any stage. Even the police were shocked by their response, and advised we request a report from the hotel by email as to their investigation. Needless to say we have had no reply. The staff generally seemed inexperienced and poorly trained, but smirks and shrugs at check out after the theft of a resident’s gift, alongside a complete lack of managerial response, suggests a culture that does not value resident safety and wellbeing.
