Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe paths around the hotel are a bit broken but that was not a big issue. It is pretty spread out so involves a bit of walking. It is not actually in Monchique town but that was not a problem as we had a car.
The pool and surrounds were just great. It is a very pretty setting. The valley was nice. The main hotel was very nice. Breakfast was good.

PolandRooms could be decently renovated even with aim to keep antics style. Analogue TV would be amusing attraction if it worked.
Breakfast was very good. Restaurant is serving very good food both for lunch and dinner. Main attraction is thermal inside pool and outside pool.

United KingdomUnfortunately we ended up in a substandard poorly decorated room at the top of the cheapest part of the hotel, as we were only staying one night we just let it go but would not make the same mistake twice. on arrival at the hotel we had to drive around the block four times to find reception had to go back and find some keys that worked having been incorrectly issued in the first place.
The hotel is essentially an amalgamation of a number of buildings that are centrally run, some are more modern and clean than others, this is not made apparent during the booking process.

FranceAwful signalisation to find the right hotel or car park. Walked around with our suitcase and when at the hotel found out reception was closed and that I should find the central reception. Then struggled to find the central reception. I understand they moved people into one same hotel because there weren’t many guests. Just should have warned us about where to go for check-in in one of the several messages they had sent prior to the date or put up a sign at the other hotels or road signs. Also should reimagine the whole signalisation of just provide more info.
Got upgraded to a 4* hotel inside the resort with a big balcony. Calm, clean place where you feel close to nature. Nice interior and exterior pool with Monchique’s alkaline water.

PortugalThe hotel and rooms desperately need maintenance. Shortage of staff, one room was not cleaned and had a half drank bottle inside.
Not my first time in monchique, I love it and would love to recommend it to my friends, it's a small hidden treasure in the region.. But the management of the facilities have become terrible, no maintenance, poor cleaning..

BelgiumThe cleaning team was too small and could not handle the tasks in a timely manner. Our check-in was delayed by 2 hours due to cleaning delay. Moreover, the room photos posted on Booking.com website were wrong. The hotel our reservation was for, was placed in a continuous noise environment. We had to ask to be moved to another facility. The staff were kind enough and relocated us to a noise free location, after the 1st night. The noisy hotel was called a 3 stars and the one we moved on the 2nd day was called a 4 stars. However, the 4 stars did not have a minibar and there was a strong smell of mold in the room. The window courtines were dirty in both hotels, but the linen, towels and sanitary were clean. The vacuuming was also a weak point, there were visible hairs on the floor in both places. We specifically requested the cleaning team to clean our room on the 3rd day, we were also out of toilet paper, but we were told they did not have time.
The food is good, the location is beautiful and the surrounding nature is fantastic. The outdoor pool is lovely but the water is much colder than advertised, probably not more than 20 Celsius. The nearby springs are refreshing and the whole atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. Great service also, during breakfast serving and generally at the restaurant.

United KingdomHotel Termal building itself is, I suspect, a good 20 years old now and some very, very minor aspects of the room and building are starting to show their age, but this doesn't affect your stay and is nothing a little refit wouldn't fix. In fact, I think while we were there the entire first floor was going through just that.
The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful and very pro-active in communication. We loved the location, up away from the madness of the main seaside resort, it felt 'real', authentic and far more relaxing. Considering it's a short 20 minute drive into Portimao, and the town of Monchique is a short drive up the road, it was a nice quiet location to stay away from the mad crowds. There's enough locally in terms of places to eat - Cafe Imperio worth the short walk if you like beautifully cooked chicken, Portuguese-style - and the 19th century buildings around the hotel are lovely and picturesque.

United KingdomThe room was very dated and we couldn't obtain a WiFi signal, plus their was bird droppings on the balcony table/chairs and wall from the day we arrived. I cleaned it once at the end of the stay and at no point did any of the cleaners attempt to clean etc. Bathroom shared with ants. This is the 5th stay in this hotel and have always had a different room in a different section of the complex, but this time in my experience the standard has lowered. We even tried to move rooms but staff very unhelpful, a take it or leave it attitude - no pillow cases on pillows for 1 and not to mention numerous of reasons why we would never go back there again... not a great start to our holiday. It's just as well we were moving onto a better accommodation. We look back a laugh now and think never again!!

United Statesi found it very run down. i found an open can of soda in my closet when I checked in. key cards didn’t work. i had to hike up and down the mountain every time. they never came to clean my balcony that had a beehive destroyed on the floor. the spa is a joke don’t even bother save your money. nothing works. thermal water should be hot it was basically an indoor pool. staff is very aware about all issues we had to laugh about it. again the staff was great friendly not there fault. management company to step up or owners. you can only blame covid for long. you will lose clients. I’m sure future plans are going to be great but in the meantime!!! what make others suffer.

PortugalThe rooms were a bit old, but good for the value.
Breakfast was great, , and the staff was very considered about my gluten free options. We had a situation with the room and manager Filipe dos Santos sorted it out swiftly to make our stay more agreeable. The swimming pool was great, the only thing missing was a bar service by the pool. Renato Reis, the singer from the first night was a very good professional.
