Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IcelandThe lack of TV channels is becoming a problem for me, Sky does not work properly, and the best film channels are closed. Time to change that. Cant be that expensive. Why not take in Danish and Norwegian channels?
Although the breakfast is good, after 10 years staying at the Hotel (and before the Svava) it is time to change the breakfast, it is boring, the bread uninteresting, the coffee also. Time to change the breakfast.

United KingdomThe bathroom door needed lubricating. The squeaking noise disturbed sleep. Other guests complained of the same problem in their rooms No air conditioning available in hot weather. Windows were sealed so we borrowed a fan from reception.k The Sky TV channel signal kept breaking. Other channels were fine. To be fair, we did not bother complaining about these issues.
Central location with comfortable facilities. Excellent breakfast. Charming and helpful staff.

GermanyThis time, however, I was greatly dissatisfied with the way I was treated on arrival and departure. On July 24, I arrived pretty early around 10am, my room was not ready yet, so I had to wait. I asked if it could be made possible to give me the room somewhat earlier, and the receptionist let me know that she was confident to have it ready for me by noon and would be going to inform me immediately when this were to happen. By the end of this conversation she could not resist to point out to me that check-in to the room was not guaranteed before 3:30pm. At noon, I asked again, room still not ready, and again I was instructed that there was no claim to get the room before 3:30pm. Same game at 1pm when I decided to go for a brief lunch. Back from lunch around 2:30pm same procedure, but this time I was offered an immediately available alternative which was a room in which the window could not be opened (it was summer and pretty hot and stuffy air at that time). After having been waiting so long for a room with window, I declined with thanks and stood by for another hour. At 3:30pm (the receptionist had changed around 3), I stepped up to the desk and received my room without any comment or delay. A similar experience awaited me at checkout. I asked if I could pay with my bank card, and the receptionist answered that my bill had been charged to my credit card already (which I had to deposit at reservation time). In my experience, bills are never automatically charged to your credit card that is deposited as a security when booking. Rather, you always get asked at checkout time how you wish to pay, and therefore, I expressed my dissatisfaction with this procedure at Svava Hotel. In response, I got no regret, no excuse, but just the instruction that I had consented to this practice when reserving the room. Into the bargain, I was given the teaching "you must read the terms and conditions before booking".
The Best Western Svava Hotel in Uppsala is a very nice place to stay, convenient location next to train station and the old part of the town, clean, sufficiently large rooms with modern equipment, very calm, excellent breakfast, all at a good price. You get real value here, and this is why I choose the Best Western Svava whenever I am in Uppsala.

United KingdomRoom was compact - all the essentials, but as a single traveller it felt cramped - not sure how there would have been room for two people and their possessions. Wifi uses an unsecured network. A digital clock display on the TV at the end of the bed shone a bright blue light into the room all night, which undermined the blackout curtains. I’d booked a room with one double bed, but received a room with two single beds made separately and pushed together. I later learned that this seems to be standard in Sweden, though quite why one person would need two small duvets is beyond me. When I asked for a double duvet, I was told they “don’t have any”.
Good breakfast. Staff were mostly very helpful, allowing me to check in slightly early, and lending me an umbrella during a thunderstorm. Location is great. The room had excellent blackout curtains (though I gather from colleagues that not all rooms did).

United KingdomPillows and mattress were very thin and uncomfortable; I can't say slept well any of the five nights I was there. Although it was great that the windows open, the perpetual clicking of the pedestrian crossing outside was disruptive. This can't be helped by the hotel, of course, but had the bedding been better quality it would probably have been easier to sleep through the noise.
Staff were friendly, room was cozy and clean, breakfast was basic but suitable. Location was great, with a view of the train station from my window and walking distance to the university. Windows open wide, which is lovely!

United KingdomA very small point is that sound isolation was not the best. But as I said, I am really struggling to fault this hotel. I do not think anybody will be bothered by noise, but I heard a few bangs around during the evening.
Breakfast was excellent with everything one may want to eat in the morning. The breakfast space was also very nice with a lot of light and plenty of space. The rooms are small and simple but with everything I needed. The bed was comfortable, and there were plenty of TV channels on offer.
