How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

WiFi had a good signal but barely worked. My room, although spacious and clean, was very basic - there was no table or desk or anything like that.
Location is OK, close to the main street but far enough to muffle the noise. The place is huge, with individual rooms grouped in twos and threes in separate buildings that give more privacy. The bathroom was clean, with cold water only (no big deal in the hot climate over there). There is a pool.

Pool area a little basic. Staff weren't helpful with booking an onward taxi, just gave me a number.
Quirky room was Hobbit-like from the outside and spacious within. Breakfast served on our balcony was a good touch. Very convenient for the centre of El Tunco, but didn't notice any noise from the centre at night Comfortable hammocks.

I’m giving it a 9 only because the Wi-Fi in my room didn’t work. I had to sit right outside of my room or go to other areas to use it. I went with the mindset of unplugging from technology as much as possible so that was ok I guess. But if you really need Wi-Fi it that is something to confirm with hotel first.
Enjoyed the stay, and excellent customer service. Every staff member I interacted with was kind and helpful. The whole experience and atmosphere at El Tunco was wondering.

Especially the bathrooms are really dated, changed room 3 times due to several problems (bad odour, disfunctional ventilation, leaking tap). Showers without hot water. Can be quite noisy (at night) especially during weekends. Poor wifi in rooms. Expensive for what you get.
Comfortable beds. Decent room with AC. Nice 2 pools which are often cleaned. Good breakfast which is included in the price. Helpful staff (mostly communicates only in Spanish) but is unable to advice much on activities.

The property goes pretty vertical and all though it was not a total deal breaker walking up the steep hill to our room was a bit of a hike.
Breakfast was included in our stay and we ate it both mornings. It was the typical El Salvadorian breakfast, which I love, and they delivered it up to our room each day!

The neighbors were a little loud around midnight, we would have appreciated having the option of choosing a quieter area y the hotel.

A little pricier than other hotels in the same area.
Location was ideal, walking distance to the beach. Breakfast was sufficient and tasty. Helpful staff.

Rooms very warm when entering. Pity the staff didn't have AC on for our arrival. Breakfast wasn't for me 😔. Beds were also very uncomfortable.
Staff were great. Thankfully they spoke English for us.

The beds were just ok, no fridge in the room, no closet to hang your clothes, problem with the TV and A/C
The breakfast was limited, small portion, restaurant was really hot with no airflow. I stayed there 3 nights, but only had the breakfast the first morning because it wasn't worth getting up for.

The childrens pool was blue one day and then green. Staff were awful, never welcomed us or said hello, strange bunch. The rooms were basic, sink leaked, the lamp was broken. Breakfast was served on plastic plates and you got what you were given. Worst place I’ve stayed in and was very noisy on the Saturday night from the street( which isn’t their fault)

It’s not that “I didn’t like” but they should have “some stand” in the shower to place your shampoo or conditioner.
Location very convenience, walking distance to everything in El Tunco, very nice & clean place, beds were comfortable. Nice swimming pool for “relaxing” after being on d beach.
