Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaBed’s were very hard. A very isolated place which made it a bit more difficult to get out and see what was around the area. Staff were very helpful though.
Beautiful, tranquil location. Loved listening to the wildlife at night and the visits from the abundant gecko’s. Food was nice but was unusual to have to preorder and have at the room.

ThailandVery little to add here. The only thing I can think of is a fridge in the tent would've been nice. Otherwise everything was lovely.
Baan Rai Khun Ya is my and my wife's escape from Bangkok. It's one of our favourite places in Thailand. It feels remote and wild and, above all, peaceful. The staff are really sweet, helpful and accommodating. Somewhat reserved about leaving a review as we want it to stay the way it is. Have been telling favoured friends in Bangkok. Magical.

AustraliaI liked everything.
The location, although out of the way, was superb, right on the river. I'd done research on google maps on the route, but needn't have bothered because it was well signposted. The architecture is what I'd describe as 'village Thai', a bit rough, but very appealing. Inside was dark, but with lights on, glowed. The beds were on low decks, very Thai. The dinner, a hot pot, or steam boat, was very nice, and a small was plenty for me, even though I have a big appetite. I wanted to order larger, but the lady in reception talked me out of it. Breakfast was plentiful, both hot and continental pastries. Wifi was fast and reliable.

Fantastic location next to the river, and only 5 minutes from Hellfire Pass. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. We stayed in Baan Makham, and it was a great bungalow set up on the hill, and we found it spacious, and comfortable.

ThailandOnly 1 AC in the bedroom was leaking and little smell.
This wooden house is unique with small nice details, the bedsheets and towels are from high quality 100% cotton, the view is beautiful. The owner came for breakfast to check everything, which is so sweet.

United KingdomI am vegan and the choice for the buffet breakfast was very limited for me.
The setting by the side of the river was beautiful. We had a tent that was lovely, extremely comfortable, and a great view to wake up to.

United KingdomI would bring ear buds for sleeping as the birds can be pretty noisy - all part of the remote location.
Our stay was wonderful, the setting is peaceful and beautiful. The food great and cheap and the hosts very nice. They organised day trips for us and pick ups from nam tok station. They even changed our room when we realised we have booked a small rather than larger tent

SingaporeMeat for the big BBQ set only has one type of chicken and pork, with one type of chili sauce. I thought the pork should have more variety, and with different sauce, as the price is not cheap. We kind of struggled to finish them.
The wooden chalet is clean and spacious. There's adequate lightings and electrical outlets. Aircon is cold, TV and Wi-Fi connection is good. Comfortable mattress and pillows. There's a big fridge, and electric kettle. No issue with its hot shower. Garden and mountain view from the balcony, with a portion of the river visible. We enjoy the time on the floating platforms by the river, chilling out, listening to the river flowing sound, seeing boats passing by, watching the sunset. Had our BBQ dinner served at our own balcony. Not many dishes for buffet breakfast but they all taste great. Staff are polite. Nice to spend our time in this secluded spot.

AustraliaTraditional wooden chalet set on a beautiful riverside property with only 5 rooms. Staff were very friendly and helpful despite their limited English. They arranged to pick us up from the Hellfire Pass museum and dropped us back to the Nam Tok train station the next morning for a very reasonable fee, which was great. The evening meal was excellent and served on our own little terrace overlooking the river, and the breakfast was good too. Highly recommended.

ThailandWhat looks like a new resort on the opposite bank of the Khwae Noi. But that's the only thing we didn't like.
We don't want to say too much as we don't want too many people going ;-) we love peace and quiet and nature and love the area. The breakfast's were great, surroundings superb and staff were lovely. A great retreat from the noise and bustle of Bangkok. We'd like to live at the resort ... permanently.

United KingdomWhere to start with this gem that is BaanRai Khun Ya?! A few kilometers away from the Hellfire Pass and hugging the river Noi you'll find these wonderful wooden chalets - very spacious (I was solo) - and quite fun to investigate on arrival. There was a large terrace, even a seated veranda out front and further still, an extra covered and lighted seated area (which also included a plug socket) to the side of the chalet. Food was simple, but delicious! And, good coffee! There are some things to consider: Location: now, BaanRai is out in the sticks (as you're probably aware), but don't let this put you off if you don't drive - the staff are happy to organise a ride for you in quick fashion. Pop into a local village shop - done. Ride to-and-from an attraction - done. Guided tour - done. Language: little to no English is spoken out this way. Now, I've been learning Thai for a couple of months and I'm still terrible, but with that and google translate - no problems. Also, big plus is Pete, whom will contact you before you arrive and he speaks great English and is also very fast to respond to any queries you may have! It's a simpler life out there and it shows. But I loved it. And to see so many stars in the sky!

AustraliaThe staff on site only speak Thai. This wasn’t a huge problem for us because we speak a bit of Thai and otherwise organised everything with Pete via WhatsApp. Before you arrive make sure to bring enough cash. You can pay for meals and transport via credit card but if you do activities outside the accommodation you’ll need cash. The staff kindly drove me to an ATM during our stay but you want to avoid that hassle :)
Amazing place to stay right on the river bank. We were 3 adults and 2 children and the 2 bedroom villa was more than enough space. The included breakfast was great. Communication with Pete via WhatsApp was very easy and he helped to organise some great day trips to the hot springs and Erawan Falls. The dinners at the accommodation were delicious too. The staff on site were super kind and hard working. Highly recommend you stay here!

ThailandFor me it is perfect as it is but there isn't that much to do and the trips as offered are pricey and covering a day. Maybe they should offer more and tell people in advance so they can make their mind up. For dinner they can offer a few more western options like burgers and fries etc. but I liked the food a lot.
A natural place from wood build on the banks of the river in wonderful gardenlike style enviroment. It suited me really well as I came to relax and wind down from work. The brakfast was lovely with lots of choices to eat as well Thai as western, and the coffee was outstanding. All in a beautiful natural setting. Although the staff speak little English they will do everything for you to make yo feel comfortable, their service imaculate. The house I stayed in was big and full of surprises, with great views and great beds and cushens, so important.

ThailandVery little. Since it was the rainy season it would've been great to something to clean muddy feet at the entrance to the bungalow. But I really can't think of anything else.
Love the location - superb. Breakfast was perfect. The Khao Tom was amazing. It was lovely and quiet and close to the beack at Hintok but also the 'Hellfire Pass' and museum.
