Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyHotel is in an historical building dating back to the time Kars was part of Russia in a quiet area. Rooms are very tidy and the quality of the breakfast is very good. Best bed and pillow I ever had in an hotel, since they were not too soft. Kars city is small, hence everything can be reached by foot.

SwitzerlandThe staff was kind and did its best to help us but the only weak point is that nobody speaks English. In spite of that, they organized a taxi for us to go to Ani archeological site.
When we arrived, we were upgraded to a suite. Our room was very clean, spacious and well appointed (good bathroom, comfortable bed). Cheltikov hotel is located in an ancient russian mansion and is nicely decorated. Buffet breakfast was good with a large choice of cheese (Kars is famous for its cheese), cakes, jams and so on. Moreover, the location is very good, a few minutes walk to the citadel and to Atatürk street where there are many restaurants and cafes. There's also a nice garden at the back of the hotel.

Australiai wish they had an elevator! Wifi was a bit wobbly and at times internet dropped out completely. Breakfast included a vast range of Turkish cheeses but was otherwise pretty ordinary.
Cheltikov has a definite "old world" aura to it, and on an overcast day (no rarity in Kars) its black tufa stone exterior gives it a rather sombre, even grim, aspect. But it's a pretty comfortable hotel and located within an easy walk of many eating places, shops of all kinds, impressive Kars Kalesi and many smaller buildings of historical and architectural interest. My room was very comfortable and well-heated - a necessity even in May, with night-time temperatures at or sllghtly below zero. Staff were competent and helpful, though without any significant language skills. The immediate neighbourhood has evidently been through pretty hard times in the relatively recent past, but now looks to be slowly undergoing something of a renaissance. And it's calm and safe. The same might be said of the hotel. I'd stay here again.

United StatesThe hotel is located a bit out of the center of town, but we didn't mind the walk.
The breakfast was good, and the building is lovely. Our room was very large and furnished and lighted in a manner that felt homey.

Everything! A beautiful grand old very well preserved building with exquisite rooms on a quiet cul-de-sac, but close walking distance to town, restaurants and shops.

United StatesPerhaps more varieties of Turkish foods at the Turkish breakfast. But really the breakfast was quite adequate.
A beautiful very well preserved grand old mansion on a quiet cul-de-sac, but within easy walking distance of town, restaurants and shopping. The rooms are truly beautiful. The were three floors and no elevator but the staff carried all our luggage and walking up 3 flights was no problem at all. Very friendly staff.

South AfricaThere is no lift and our room was on the third floor. Do NOT leave your window open since the call to prayer will wake you up at 03h00 and this guy goes full out for at least an hour! No English is spoken and the receptionist tried to use this as an excuse to double charge me for the room even though I had the booking.com proof of payment. If you want to drink a beer you are not allowed on the street and need to sit in an abandoned quart yard at the back of the hotel. No fun. Some of the restoration work on the hotel is not done in sympathy with the original design which is a pity since it is such a beautiful old building.
Great breakfast, however the honey was cut with corn syrup (something we encountered many time at other place but not worthy of such a stately establishment). The building is simply beautiful with great photographs. It is close to the tourist area of old town. The wood paneling is wonderful

United StatesThe hotel is set in a historical Russian building which looks amazing. The room is also quite spacious and clean. Its location is great since it is very close to the citadel of Kars. The breakfast was nice as well and their cheese selection is simply amazing as Kars is famous for its cheese products.

United StatesThe staff weren’t very helpful. They didn’t seem to know much about the area and weren’t really keen on finding information for us. We had to search for tour guides on our own. One of the maids kept side eyeing us too, so it made us feel uncomfortable.
The place is gorgeous, comfortable, and the location is great.

United KingdomMyself and my son checked into the hotel and was shown to our room. The hotel was clean but very dark inside. I did not feel comfortable to stay the night so I phoned around for another hotel and we left. There is no meal facilities it just offers breakfast. I cannot comment on the breakfast as we did not stay. Personally I prefer a lighter brighter hotel more central. My husband booked this hotel for myself and my son. For me this hotel was just not for me due to the very dark rooms and decor.

United KingdomOne big problem- Kars is HOT in summer, and this hotel has no AC. It does say that on their listing, I should have read more carefully. First night, I was on the first floor over-looking the main street. Got no sleep at all- heat plus street dogs barking all night. To be fair, I asked for another room and they gave me a much quieter one on the top floor Staff don't speak any English- Google translate at the ready
