Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe breakfast could have been more. But considering that it is off-season and few visitors were in the hotel, it was still quite good.
Very nice host and family who speak English and have nice suggestions on where to go, what to do and where to go for dinner. The hotel has perfect value and is located very nicely in the bazaar, but is still pretty quiet during the night.

United KingdomThe shower in the room was ok most of the time but sometimes the water wasn't very hot however it wasn't a big problem
We had a good size room and it was very clean. The wifi worked very well and the beds were very comfortable. The manager, Haran, was very helpful with helping us organise a local tour. The other staff on reception were also very helpful. The breakfast was a basic Turkish breakfast of bread, olives, cheese, cucumbers, tomato's, boiled eggs, jams etc

AustraliaThe room was uncomfortably hot throughout the day and night. Unfortunately I didn't take note that there was no air conditioning in the rooms when making the booking... Just be warned if you are travelling here in summer. I did raise it with the manager and he offered that we can rent a fan for 200 Lira per day which we declined. The bathroom also had an unpleasant odour of mould (though I couldn't see any obvious mould growth). Unsure of the exact source - the drain maybe. The breakfast was very basic at best. Also when we got to the room there were no towels and no bathmat. There was also a tiny bit of toilet paper left with no spare roll. I had to ask reception twice before they finally brought said items to our room (after waiting probably an hour or so).
The manager was very friendly and helpful. He organised for us to join an Iranian tour of the upside down house, Akdamar Island and the Van Cat House at a really good price. He also helped to organise our bus tickets up to Dogubayazit.

IrelandNo air con and kettle in the rooms. Rooms on 5th floor get a lot of noise as early as 7 am from the breakfast area on sixth floor. Location is too central and noises from local shops can go on late in the night and with no air con you might need to leave the windows open, but you get used to it.
The rooms were clean. Water was always warm for the shower. Free tea in the lobby from 2pm to evening. Location is central close to the shops. Decent breakfast included every morning. Rooms were equipped with a small fridge. Staff speaking Persian, Turkish and English fluently, which is very helpful.

United KingdomThe room was so hot - we turned off our radiator as soon as we arrived and never switched it back on, you can feel the heat coming through the floor. We had the window open a lot to try and cool it down but then the fumes/smoke from outside were too strong. The hotel has very little soundproofing so you can hear everything going on next door/above/below. The "bedside" light was much brighter than the main light, could do with the bulb being switched to a more yellow and less harsh light.
Big room - I think we got upgraded to a family suite so we had three beds! Beds were comfortable and the shower had good pressure. We were also able to do a load of washing which was really handy (100tlr for 7kg e.g. one load). Wide range of choice at breakfast.

RomaniaAt the reception they have gives us a “biger” room, that means in stead of a double or twin room a room with 3 beds (1 double and 2 singles!!!) the problem of that is that you could barely move in the room :-)))! I would need a lot more cleaning, it is not the work but is not ok and we had just a towel for a couple! we asked for more but we did not saw them :-))! Breakfast very simple and the same :-( !
The location was good and we could park in the front of the hotel which was super!

United KingdomFor unknown reasons, an individual staff (around his late 50s) kept providing wrong information about the currency exchange offices and their opening times and where you can find beers. The rooms don't have air-conditioning systems and the curtains allow the light in on early mornings. There was some moulds in the bathroom where the door is. We booked three rooms and the fridges in two of the rooms did not work. The hot water system cannot accommodate the morning rush in the hotel and unless you shower before 7am or after 11 am, then you should expect only cold water in the shower (this was the response from the hotel when I asked the question).
The location is great with a walking distance to the grocery shops, restaurants, shopping area, taxies and minibus stations. Staff (except for one) are kind and helpful. The breakfast is good based on the hotel's price.

India- One staff requested to pay higher price quoting inflationary pressures, although did not force us to pay (we booked in advance and good a fair deal, prices were quoted in euro and not Turkish lira). On checking I found the prices were the same if one were to book in a month or two in advance. I could have been cheated if I had bought his story. - Rooms did not have air conditioning/fan, although this was not promised either. It can get hot on odd days. Overall, this did not spoil our experience and I still recommend staying here.
- value for money - breakfast with a lot of variety - location - close to restaurants, dolmus stand (Besyol)

United KingdomThe only inconvenience was smell of cigarettes coming from the room next door. Not sure if smoking in rooms is tolerated (apparently in Turkey it often is), or I was simply unlucky.
Good location, only a few steps away from, the central Besyol Square and Van's main thoroughfare, Cumhuriyet Caddesi. The room was clean and well equipped. Friendly staff, always willing to help out.

TurkeyWifi was disconnecting quite often. Be aware that the rooms are not sound proof and if you stay on the 5th floor you can hear the sound of chairs moving in the morning as the breakfast restaurant is located right above.
The room and bathroom are clean, light and very spacious. The hotel is in a central location close to shops, restaurants, etc. Breakfast comes in buffet style and there were plenty of options to choose from. The staff and owner are very friendly and English is spoken in this hotel. Water and tea are offered 24/7 at the reception area and they are happy to help you with booking tours to the sightseeing spots in Van and surroundings.
