Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandBe careful if you want to explore the city; sights like the night market are relatively far away. I'd recommend renting a scooter for the duration of your stay.
Great Hostel right next to the trainstation in Hualien. The personell was really nice and the check-in was super easy.

TaiwanThe number on the bunker bed is a bit hard to find and you might accidentally occupy someone's empty bed thinking it's yours. But that's only a minor thing.
Conveniently located and comfortable, affordable accomodation for early risers who whishes to take an early train next day. Rooms and toilets are spotlessly clean.

United KingdomSlightly annoying having to go down a full flight of stairs to use the toilet and showers, especially if it's the middle of the night. Close to the station but a bit futher from the town centre, but can easily get on a bus from the station over the road.
Really close to the train station and convenience stores, easy to find, the owner was really kind and helpful with recommendations and I really appreciated the tea/coffee/snacks provided. Rooms were comfy and loved that each bed in our twin room had it's own TV, though we didn't really need to use it. It was nice to have some space to sit downstairs.

TaiwanThe size of the room was quite small.
It is quite near the Hualien station. There's a coffee shop in front of it. Even the room that I stayed in was small, but the bed was spacious. There's a locked locker outside and inside of the room (near the bed). And what I liked the most was, there's a bidet in both toilets, upstairs and downstairs. As an Asian, I really appreciate it. One more thing, the plug socket near the bed is a universal plug. So, you don't need a travel adapter to use it. If you are sensitive to dust, don't be worried because the place is clean, including the bathroom and toilet.

NetherlandsNothing really.
Everything! The hostel is just like many of the reviews describe: really well and cleverly designed. It’s very spacious, clean and quiet. Really great value for the price. The hostel owner is also really kind and has great tips for exploring Hualien and Taroko. Would definitely recommend staying here!

CanadaI stayed in the 4 bed mixed dorm and it's really tiny. There was basically just enough space to open the door. But it wasn't a huge problem since I was just there for two nights.
The hostel is located in a great spot, it's just a 6 min walk from the train/bus stn and is next to a grocery store for any other items you might need. Brad, the hostel owner was super nice and helpful. I went to the recommended food spots and was not disappointed. The bathroom area is also very clean. The lounge area to eat/drink/hang out is small but clean and tidy. Really appreciated the free amenities provided (instant coffee, some small snacks, etc)

AustraliaBedroom was a bit small for four people. Only stairs in the accommodation. You have to take a bus to the main shopping/eating area.
The owner was friendly and provided instructions on how to get to hostel prior to arrival. Our quadruple room was on the top floor and as there was only stairs, the owner was kind enough to carry our luggages up. The bedroom was clean, modern and comfy, with all bathroom amenities provided. All the basic amenities were provided in the shared kitchen on the ground floor. Coffee/tea/biscuits were provided. There's a shared balcony where you can hang your laundry. Accommodation is walking distance from Hualien station.

GermanyOnly two, no, three things that I was missing... Towels (no possibility to rent) and a kitchen. And the double bunked bed room is pretty small.
Very well organised hostel with a helpful owner who speaks English good enough. We spent one night in the dorm and two nights in the double bunked bed room. The Dorm was spacious and comfy with lockers (not big though). Air con and fresh air circulation worked. Comfy bed with a plug. Everything was clean, also the bathrooms. Drinking water is available. The common room at the reception is not very cozy for hanging out for a while but does the job for talking to people. WiFi worked perfectly.

United StatesThis was an excellent hostel: the space was modern, super clean, and well thought out. The dorm beds were comfortable, and had an electronic locker (and even a TV and curtain). It was a convenient 6 min walk from the train station. My train arrived after hours, and Brad had a convenient after hours check-in process. Sad that I only had one night here, and will definitely be back next time I'm in Hualien. Thanks Brad for a lovely stay and for your hospitality!
