Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe expected shared common spaces, but it was shared with more people than I expected, and the bedrooms are all in one hallway. Based on the description of the booking, I envisioned a joint common space with rooms on opposite sides, but we shared a small hallway with a few other rooms and guests. Because the bathroom is shared, there were some days where it was pretty dirty and unpleasant from other guests. I highly recommend bringing shower shoes, just in case. Though our overall experience was positive, this definitely was a surprise and an adjustment.
The bedroom was very clean and the bed was so comfortable. The view from the room was pretty, and the sound of the rain on rainy nights was heavenly. The view from the common living room was beautiful and the location made us truly feel part of the island. The owners were so kind, friendly, and helpful. They provide coffee, tea, and granola bars. They have all different plants on the property and were excited to share their knowledge with us. The house was very charming and had a rustic, island farm house feel. The horses on the property were gorgeous.

AustraliaThe shower head needs replacing but that’s about it. Would recommend a car if you stay here but this was not an issue for us.
Good facilities and very lovely staff. Cooking facilities were great with utensils and everyday cooking needs like oil, salt and pepper. Awesome views from the dining area.

CanadaPeople parked in front of my door, I also was unaware it was shared bathrooms. It was definitely out of the way for someone without a car but uber wasn't too bad.
I had a nice big room and the property was in a very peaceful setting. The main house was very comfortable and had nice traveller's.

United StatesCons: 1. Since this is a hostel type where all silverware and cooking items are shared, I felt rushed to clean the pots and pans after myself so that other residents could use them. Also, other residents threw away my unfinished food along with food containers thinking I finished with those or don’t need them anymore. 2. the laundry detergent used for washing my towel had an unpleasant smell 3. there was a separate bin for bottles and cans for recycling in the unit, yet the majority of the cans is thrown in the trash 4. pricey, but still cheaper than other units in the Kona area
can’t give max rating for the cons listed below Pros: 1. Friendly staff who shared information about local markets and provided suggestions for travel 2. Interesting roommates with whom I talked about life experiences 3. minimalistic design 4. detailed check-in instructions 5. big bottles of liquid soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (unfortunately not in bar form, which is more sustainable than plastic bottles). 6. snacks, tea, coffee for the guests 7. not far from the KOA airport

JapanThe bathroom was really not up to standard: the shower didn't drain properly, it was old and not slip proof and everything above standard height was dusty. Also the price given didn't include taxes and cleaning fee: for what we paid in the end, we could have had a much better place, without a shared bathroom.
The location was great for an early flight out of Kona airport.

United StatesJust enough stairs to be difficult for someone with mobility issues. No lights in the parking area -- at least, none that I can remember. Not the best choice for a one-night experience. You want to get to know the people who are there, if you decide that such a funky place is your style. And yet, there are precious few options near the airport.
The Ranch has communal facilities, so staying for just one night did not show it off to best advantage. No breakfast and few eating places nearby. Fantastic view from the common lounge, but not from the bedrooms.
