We stayed here last year for a few days and liked it so much we booked for a week this year. Very comfortable to return to in the evenings. We could fix our breakfast or could heat up something simple in the eveningif we wanted to. This is a small cottage in a beautiful garden. The little peepers were loud at night but We like that. There are earplugs if you don’t like it. Jean was very welcoming and pleasant to talk to. Would definitely stay here again

The only downside was the wild rooster that would crow at all times of the night. Closed windows helped but we also like fresh air- so it was a toss up.

Beautiful, private, comfortable and well thought out. They supplied everything you could need.

Everything was perfect. Jean welcomed us warmly and gave us helpful information. Inside the flat we found everything we needed, along with food and drinks for breakfast. All kitchen and bathroom tools in order and well organised. Staying here is great and highly recommended. Thank you Jean!

Jean is an amazing host, her cottage is well equipped and she takes good care of her place. It’s located only a few minutes by car from Hilo center (a lot of groceries store available), you can easily access beaches, waterfalls, caves, volcano park etc. Mahalo !

The cottage is beside the owners house but feels very private.

Now I cannot blame the owner but the Coqui frogs were noisey at night for a couple of hours, but you got used to them after a while!

The cottage had everything we could possibly want. The garden was a mini tropical paradise.

Small frogs in the area were quite loud the first night we arrived, however, during the next two nights the sound decreased, or we just got used to it. Just in case you have sensitive sleep or hearing, you might wanna have some earplugs nearby for just in case.

Jean made sure there is everything you need available in the kitchen and the bathroom and there was a welcome basket waiting for us containing a great starter package which was of great use! Loved all the details in the decoration of both the cottage and the garden, it is obvious that everything is very well tought trough. Great base to explore the surroundings, in general - a lovely place with a lovely host and we very much enjoyed our stay!

This was truly a cozy paradise tucked up on a high hill above Hilo,cool and refreshing. The Cottage was immaculate with all appliances and kinds of entertainment. Outside we were serenaded by tree frogs and countless birds. The hostess was helpful but never intrusive. Highly recommended.

A small haven that Jean filled with every possible amenity. it truly felt like a luxury stay, with robes and slippers, a welcome basket, beautiful lanai, flowers and a beautifully designed space. And that shower! Jean was incredibly thoughtful as well — my partner hit his toe on the bed and then realized it had been covered with foam. That’s just one small example. We would recommend anyone stay here. And if you love gardens, you’ll be wowed by the green thumb. beautiful plants, a water feature…basically an oasis.

everything was just a notch above what you usually get. The welcome basket was huge and had pretty much a whole breakfast in it. Although the cottage is quite small, it is very thoughtfully designed to make the maximum use of space. All the furnishings were top rate and she has supplied just about anything you might need

The property is beautiful and the location good but it was difficult for us to find even with instructions emailed to us by Jean. We had to make two telephone calls to Jean for directions before our arrival there.

The cottage was perfect for the two of us. We found it to be clean, comfortable and functional. Jean left a large basket for us with fruits, coffee, tea, rolls and snacks which was very much appreciated. The kitchenette was truly functional and well equipped and the bedding so comfy. Very close to Downtown Hilo and attractions. We would most definitely stay here again.

We found the bathroom, like most rentals, could use more toiletry room around the sink and a foldable suitcase stand or two for luggage in the living area, although it did have dresser drawers for clothes.

Beautiful private backyard cottage with lanai overlooking private garden and koi pond. inside two ceiling fans and windows on all sides that let in cooling breeze on hotter days. Very comfortable queen size bed hidden behind TV and book shelf living room area, comfortable shower with good water pressure and hot water. The lovely owner met us with a welcome basket of coffee, orange juice, fruit, snacks and chocolate covered macadamia nuts. She also gave us some bottled water in the fridge. We also liked the private off street parking and quiet neighborhood as we had a rental car and expected to have to drive and park closer to the downtown. TV had Netflix and cable.

There wasn't anything I didn't like about our stay. The pictures don't do it justice it is better in person. I had never booked a private rental before and was nervous to do so for my honeymoon but everything worked out perfectly. If your going to stay in Hilo stay at Paradise Cottage you won't regret it.

Our stay at Paradise Cottage was wonderful it was honestly like our own private slice of paradise. The cottage was adorable and was stocked with everything we could have ever needed and more. The owner went above and beyond to make our honeymoon so special and I can't thank her enough. 10 out of 10 recommend we will stay there again.

The only minor difficulty we had was finding a place to dry our swimwear after the trips to the west coast of the island. Not sure what to suggest in this regard, but maybe Jean and her husband can think of a solution (something in the shower?).

It is true that the pictures do not do justice to the place. Although the room is relatively small, the space there is so well utilized that you actually do have a living room zone, a kitchen zone, and a bedroom zone, and a nice porch with a table outside. The bathroom has a large closet, where we stored our suitcases. There is a foldable island in the kitchen with two stools, which takes very little space when folded, but can be easily converted into an extra cooking surface, a dining table, or a table for board games. The kitchen is small but very well equipped: small oven, small stove with two burners, a toaster, a coffee maker, a kettle, a slow cooker, an immersion blender, pots, pans, utensils, plates, bowls, cups, glasses, silverware, kitchen towel, hot pads, paper towels, salt, pepper, olive oil, vinegar - everything is there. I never ran into a problem when one piece of the puzzle was missing: if there are candles in the drawer, there will be a lighter, maybe in another drawer. Also, Jean owns a bookstore, and the shelf facing the living room zone has books for all tastes, from tropical gardening and hiking to artists in Hawaii, history, and fiction. Also, it has some board games (my partner said they were for old people, but whatever). Upon arrival, Jean also gave us a basket with some fruit, coffee, tea, cookies, a couple of packs of ramen, etc., and some of those things were really handy. We had most of our breakfasts on the porch facing the garden with trees, flowers, and singing birds. It was great. If I ever return to Hilo for vacation, I will try to book this place in advance.
