An Oasis of Charm After a Long Drive: The Carlton

    Everything was perfect

We stayed at The Carlton for just one night after a long 12-hour drive from Oregon. The hotel is a delightful blend of old-world elegance with modern comforts. The tasteful decor was a welcome change from the generic chain hotels we had endured the past few days. Best overall for us - We didn’t have to drive to a restaurant for dinner since great restaurants are within easy walking distance (1-2 blocks) - We highly recommend Mr. Q's. The Carlton's perfect location, combined with its charming atmosphere, made it the perfect stopover.

    There is nothing to dislike

Love the architectural details throughout this historic hotel. You don't see this level of craftsmanship in today's building construction. Furnishings are top quality. Rooms are spacious, quiet and well appointed. For a hotel of this vintage, it has been meticulously maintained.

Not the hotel’s fault but a storm knocked out the cable.

Beautiful old hotel with so much charm and huge rooms.

2 quick comments - our whirlpool did not work (we didn’t need it but it should be fixed). Also, the temperature of the hot water heater is too high. It’s scorching. By lowering it by a couple of degrees the hotel will be saving a fortune.

I stay there often. It’s quiet, clean, spacious and perfectly located for me.

The hotel's restaurant was closed for refurbishments and had been closed for several months. The Booking.com website did not reflect this information.

The hotel is beautiful and our room was very spacious. The large tub with jets was a real treat. The front desk staff was welcoming and provided good recommendations for places to eat within walking distance from the hotel.

Fear the new ownership won't respect and maintain the historic character of the hotel. It can be updated/freshened, if that's what they want to do, without destroying the historic vibe. It's a gem of a place, please don't turn it in to a Hampton Inn.

Love the historic building and furnishings. Rooms are large and confortable. Love the bathrooms and interior courtyard. Atascadero is a good location for wine tasting, golfing, and other activities around SLO. or Paso Robles or the coast. The bakery next door has excellent pastries and coffee.

    Nothing in particular.

Beautiful, clean and convenient. I would have liked an evening restaurant as well as a breakfast restaurant which opened up an hour earlier.

Parking is across the street but hard to find without asking.

This is a really cool hotel. It's in the heart of a very small town. Nice interior courtyard. The furnishings are really stylish; updated new decor but in the style of the period the hotel had its opening heyday. Free parking.

    Nothing. Highly recommend.

Gorgeous Hotel seemed out of place. It had big city elegance in a small town. Finishings elegant and well though out. Linens plush. Jacuzzi tub lux. Patio entrance from room fun. Bakery downstairs delish. (Bacon Date scone & Olive herb bread to take home.

As mentioned in the amenities, there was no tub. That was a huge disappointment, since I brought bath salts because I don’t have a tub in my home. . As mentioned in the amenities, there were no bathrobes. The desk did not mention the spa/workout room, so I don’t know if it was in operation.

The hotel is historic, almost 100 years old. The remodel was very elegant. The room was spacious and accommodating and plush.
