The beds were very thin, not the most comfortable for side sleepers. Parking was horrendous. It's first-come, first-serve street parking. I dropped my stuff off around 3:30 (check-in), and I had to park on the main road in 1 hour parking. I was lucky enough that when I got back to the hostel after 10, there was a spot right out front. If you're coming with a vehicle, just be prepared.

Aaron I believe his name was... the house manager, was super sweet. Very helpful. The house was spacious, the outdoor area was so nice and if I had been staying there more than one night, I'd have loved to utilize it!

I booked a two-night stay but was very eager to leave after the first night. I admit my mistake - I didn’t read enough reviews on the property, the high booking.com rating fooled me. A hostel at $40 a night is the first red flag. I have stayed in many around the $40/$50 price before but quite didn’t expect this. The location is isolated and unsafe, compelling me to return each evening far before dark, and it was a 30-minute walk from downtown LA. Burlington Hostel is certainly not an ideal choice for anyone's first visit to LA. Thankfully the Bird scooters that could seldom be found within a 10 minute walk did make accessing the light rail easier so I could travel to Hollywood, Santa Monica, touristy areas easily (would take about 1hr). Disappointing because the photos of the house promised so much. The floors, walls & facilities were damaged and the pervasive smell throughout the premises was beyond unpleasant. It was so off-putting that I found myself spending as little time as possible indoors to avoid the foul odors in the bedrooms and the exceedingly unclean kitchen, food storage areas. Most uncomfortably you are asked to leave your shoes stored with all other guest’s shoes downstairs. Walking around in my socks was, for lack of a better term, incredibly gross. Concerns about safety also marred my experience. The guest demographic is unsettling, predominantly older men who didn’t speak English. The room was uncomfortably warm and smelly, the air conditioning was ineffective, and the window blind was broken. The bathrooms were particularly deplorable. They were consistently wet and filthy, with urine around the toilets—a clear sign of neglect in maintenance. The odor of urine was detectable even outside the bathrooms, leading me to question the frequency of cleaning.

I am a 23-year-old woman with over five years of experience staying in hostels when visiting new cities. I would not recommend Burlington Hostel to anyone. Unfortunately it was my worst hostel experience by far. My initial impression was positive; Aaron, who greeted me, was very welcoming, and the front garden was pleasant. However, everything deteriorated rapidly after. If you have no other option and have to stay here, get ready to use the Bird scooters for transport as the location is very far. More explained below.

Smell of the entire house. Luggage is not allowed to be kept in the room. Cleanliness around shower room on 1st floor is below expectation. Blanket is not a duvet-like with cover, so not sure if it was used by previous guest, disgusting. The pictures show real house but imagine it in a much less clean and tidy manner. I booked for 3 nights but decided to check out after only 1 night first thing in the morning, couldn’t even be bothered with shower.

Dirty, the property manager has numbers listed on booking.com that do not work. You will need to download WhatsApp to communicate with the property manager. People were checking in throughout the night interrupting sleep. It was truly awful. Only 2bathrooms for a thousand house guests. 15min time limit in the bathroom 😒

They make you feel unwelcome. Karina would throw my things in the trash the moment I walked out the bathroom not giving me a chance to retrieve them but with the white guests she would save their belongings for them. She was so rude and disrespectful it took all I had not to smack her face.

The owner is rude as he can be. Wouldn't even help me when I got there. Karina, his lover is even ruder because the owner condones it. It's awkward having them two sleeping together, creates a creepy atmosphere. They would turn off the lights and leave me sitting in the dark out on the patio. They seemed exceptionally rude to blacks, which me and two other people were and they were treated poorly too.
