Never saw another person. including at breakfast. No place to eat. Railroad crossing (meaning loud horns when a train came through). Tracks and crossing were super close to building. Totally opposite to anything in the cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks,

There's a reason no one stays in Cantwell ... that is unless you're fishing or you are wanting a "real" off-the-beaten-track experience. Beautiful spot and there are many very nice homes hidden in the woods on the other side of the railroad tracks. Never saw another person. Nice artwork on the walls of our room(s). Best breakfast during the whole time in Alaska (including gluten-free, keto type items) and warm items were warm.

The only thing that's out of the lodge's control really, is the passing of the train - it will definitely wake you up as it blows its horn when passing through.

Cantwell was great! It's a little cozy lodge nestled in between the surrounding forest, and right next to a railroad track. It's older and could do with some updating, but that didn't take away at all from our experience - it was cozy. Cynthia was amazing and hospitable. We requested dinner to be cooked for us, as the options in Cantwell itself are limited. But boy, she didn't disappoint. She cooked us a dinner every night of our stay, and it always included an appetizer salad and sides. We were always well-fed and full. Our room was so cute and the laying was nice - As soon as you walk in you'll see the bed and refrigerator and drawers, and walk a little further past the bathroom there's another door - after opening it it was another room that was a part of ours - Cynthia used it as our dining room, and removed what used to be an extra bed. Overall it was a great experience - it had everything we needed: towels, tv, microwave, refrigerator. I'd love to stay here again.

It's a little bit of a drive each day to get to/ from the park, but I think it was worth the money I saved staying in Cantwell.

The room was very nice and roomy with the single bed. I had plenty of room for all of my things. There were multiple breakfast options each morning! It was nice having my own bathroom and shower as well. I would stay here again!

Unusual location near railway line, didn’t really bother us. Bar was closed. Needs heavy block out curtains.

The bathroom was newly renovated, towels were new and fluffy, shower was great. The bed was comfortable and large and pillows were great. Used 2nd room for our suitcases, plenty of room.

Location is a bit far from the Denali park, but easily doable.

While unassuming on the outside, the room itself was great - clean, comfortable, good wifi (and even roku tv), complete with a tasty breakfast in the morning starting at 5am.

No black out shades made it hard to sleep with the summer sun. Great gesture with the snack boxes, however everything in the boxes was expired anywhere from 3-10 months ago. The restaurant attached was closed, like stuff all over inside. Appears it had been closed down for a while. Disappointed after a long day at Denali looking for a good meal.

Comfy beds and exceptionally clean! Lots of blankets. Breakfast was good with plenty of options. Stayed one night, would stay again!

The bathroom fan was a bit noisy.

Good value. Good distance to the Denali National Park, we can get to the park as early as possible. Also, we had five people traveling, the additional separate bedroom was convenient.

We stayed at the Cantwell Lodge for 3 nights and liked our stay. The owener is nice, friendly and very helpful. breakfast was fine too. It's located in an area where The Northen Lights are seen !! It's an excellent place to stay in, when visiting Denali park.

I did not downgrade my overall rating of this property as I am hoping the poor experience described below was a one off. However, we (my husband & I and another couple; who booked their room separately) were EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED that less than 48 hours prior to our flight to Alaska (3 days before our check in), we received notice that the on property saloon, bar and grill WOULD BE CLOSED during our stay. THIS was the reason we selected this property so we could eat and drink on site and not have to worry about driving anywhere. The message said the closure was due to "waiting for a part for a vital piece of kitchen equipment" so we were disappointed, but assumed they had an unexpected appliance breakdown which could not be avoided. HOWEVER, when we got to the property, there was a sign posted (see attached image as evidence) giving notice that JULY 30TH!! would be their last day yet still had a blow out/end of year party just prior to our arrival! This means that a decision was made MORE THAN 18 DAYS prior to either the property notifying Booking.com or Booking.com notifying us and that it was not for the reason communicated. Our group felt the delay was intentional to discourage rebooking - which we would have explored had we known of the closure sooner. FURTHER, the alternative dining options were NOT comparable (i.e. food truck, no alcohol...). We travel a lot and use booking.com, airbnb, vrbo, travelocity and other travel sites and have NEVER EXPERIENCED this type of deception in not informing us timely of the property's decision to close key parts of their facility. Although we enjoyed our time (thanks to a friendly host and time spent with good friends in an amazing state), it was not what we paid for and we certainly hope that some financial consideration is provided to make a good faith attempt to rectify the mishandling of our booking. Nice clean room as advertised, great breakfast spread with to-go options for travelers heading out early for a day of hiking/exploring, a friendly host and lovely mountain views not far from Denali National park
