How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Dreamy farmhouse was perfect for my family and I.  it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed.I was nervous for the location not knowing the area but neighborhood seemed very quiet and friendly. I highly recommend, and will be using again in the future. Also good communication, Property owner was available for questions at any time.

Upon arrival there was a heavy stench of cigarette smoke through the cottage. We also encountered ants in the kitchen and had to throw away some of our food as a result.
It was a very cute cottage with a central location.

Beds were not comfortable at all. Not really anywhere to sit to eat except a tiny coffee table. Some screens were missing on windows. A warn blanket would have been nice, as I spent all three nights shivering. There was a thin blanket in the closet, but that was it. No hangers for your clothes. The mirrors in the upstairs bathroom and downstairs bathroom need to be switched. None of this is major and it was overall a very nice place, but some attention to detail is missing.
It’s a beautiful house, very modern and the area is gorgeous with lots of restaurants nearby. It was easy to walk to things. The house was extremely clean, spotless really, and equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen.

It would have been easy & cheap to include some welcoming items such as tissues, nice soap & shampoo. Dirty dishes were left in the dishwasher & damp towels in the dryer.
The interior is very unusual & attractive, love the tile & brick features. The place has personality and lots of space.

needs a deep clean- trash outside and just didn’t feel clean when we entered. really needs attention especially with a 200 dollar cleaning fee. also the instructions for the house didn’t apply to our house . for example- we were told not to touch the heating and air units and do everything through the thermostat. there was no thermostat. the main room has a bed and a couch and a tv that can’t be seen from the bed and couch at the same time. the outside area really needed attention as well

We had to search for bath towels, as they weren’t conveniently in bathroom area. We found clean towels still in drier. Other then the bed, toilet, and shower no other amenities were used during our stay. There were no ODD smells in home. Over we enjoyed our cool night sleep in comfy beds.

Some better information about the items available there would have helped (where things are etc - spare towels, blankets, toilet paper was in a very small cupboard that I completely overlooked). The parking spot on the gravel is useful but one side was very steep and damaged the front bumper of my rental car a few times. The 'hot tub' wasn't really a hot tub and a bit misleading - it's just a deep shower tray/bath really. The room scents were very strong and we unplugged them for most of the trip. These are mostly minor things though. I thought the place was great.
The property was cosy and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was great. There were excellent facilities outdoors too and overall it was a lovely place to stay. Nice big screen TV and a sofa, which you can pull away from the wall into position. The place was pet friendly and great for the dog. When it was a bit chilly in the morning there is a very useful gas fire to warm the house up. The kitchen was really well equipped and you could easily make some great meals in there. Having a door-code instead of a key was also very helpful as you could never get locked out and didn't have to bother remembering your key each time you left the house. The location was very useful with a gas station and some lovely coffee shops only a short walk/drive away.
