How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Great location within 12 minute walk to the bottom of the hill to Universal Studios (take the tram up the hill) or a $7 Uber ride. Starbucks, grocery, Togo's sandwiches, grocery store, all within a block and a half. Cute Casita style rooms that look like they're from 1950's Hollywood but updated. This is not a resort but the rooms are roomy, comfortable, clean, updated, and basic. Everything we needed and nothing we didn't. Would definitely stay here again.

Could have used a couple more power outlets, everyone has lots of things to charge today. There was an ironing board, but no iron.
The room was a bit rough around the edges, but it was very clean. The bathroom was simple, but well appointed, a large modern shower, and plenty of fresh towels. The bed was firm but comfortable, sheets were fresh and clean. Would definitely stay there again.

Not in the greatest neighborhood but decently safe.
Cute little hotel with retro appeal. Staff was super friendly & very knowledgeable. Room was small but comfortable with nice amenities like a microwave & small fridge

Not much we didn’t like. Maybe just a coffee pot in the room but again there was coffee in the lobby. Overall great place. Maybe a little more counter space in bathroom but we definitely made it work. Bathroom looked really nice.
The staff was so polite and funny which was nice. No coffee maker in room but it was in the lobby. It was so clean and we loved our own private parking. Even though we have a truck we made it work. A great place for my family. Thank you!

No complaints here this is my go to hotel when working here in Hollywood!
I love everything about this hotel the staff is awesome the rooms are always clean. The location is surrounded by stores and places to eat not to mention universal studios right around the corner.

Such a perfect spot, 5-10 minutes from a bunch of restaurants, shopping, and of course universal studios. It was my 3rd or 4th time coming, and I will continue to come back!

We loved how attentive the service was. They offered us locations to visit, they had coffee and muffins in the morning. They made sure we always had what we need and we felt safe! We loved the cottages we stayed in the first visit. This time we stayed at the el royale gardens and everything was just as great! The room was clean, bed was amazing, and comfortable

Fantastic location within walking distance to Universal studios. The El royal gardens has clean, modern rooms which were very comfortable at an excellent price.. The staff are exceptional. Very kind and go the extra mile for you. Our stay exceeded our expectations and is a little hidden gem. Highly recommend.

The only feedback I have is that they didn’t have a closet space to hang your clothes (if you need to hang ironed clothes), but it’s not a deal breaker.
I enjoyed my stay here very much! The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and it had everything I needed. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect for a trip to universal.

They close the entry gate to the parking lot at midnight so I had to rush back to avoid getting locked out.
Each unit is separate and has its own parking space.

I love that we all had our own parking space and it felt very comfortable. Xavier was attentive, funny, and fast to handle any requests.

Old motel but redone very nicely. Comfortable and clean. Also a garage to park small vehicle. We arrived early and were nicely accommodated. Very good location.
