Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NorwayOnly one thing: Housekeeping put the new towels on the toilet lid. Absolutely a 100% never do. Toilet bacterias still exist regardless of the rest of the hotel being clean. It would probably most likely not hurt me to dry off with them, but its a dirty and easy no when you are at a hotel. Hope it is not the regular standard.
Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Very close to Universal Studios and grocery stores etc. Good value for money. This is not your Marriott or Hilton, but the easy going yet still professional small hotel close to the Hollywood hills and Universal Studios.

DenmarkNitpicking: A bit of miscommunication (between booking.com and the property) about additional bed, but that was quickly sorted by Robert.
Note: This review applies to El Royale Gardens next door - we were upgraded for free. The staff (of both motels) - Robert and Javier - were extremely friendly and fun to talk with, and made sure we had everything we needed for a pleasant stay - *and* when leaving the motel.

United StatesThe wifi was on the slower side of things. It took a beat longer to load pages than usual. The streaming of video was average (720p) at best. The crickets at night were pretty loud. Maybe spraying for bugs 2-3 times a year would keep everything away.

CanadaSome sketchy people on the street. But i guess that's normal in all Los Angeles aerea and some big cities.
We booked through booking.com. Very nice room in el Royale gardens. The room was big and modern. It was clean. We liked the location very close to Universal Studios. We walked and got a shuttle Also Javier and Robert were very nice staff and helpful. They allowed us to check in very late without extra charges. Close to Ralph a very good grocery store. Close to 7eleven. Starbucks. Marshall's. Close to the freeway. I recommend this charming hotel. And if we come back. We will stay here again😊

United StatesHonestly, not much to say. The parking lot might be a little tight for larger vehicles. Some of the facilities in the room could be updated, our faucet had a small drip leak but was barely noticeable.
We have stayed here before and always been on the cottage side, this time we upgraded to the villa section. It exceeded our expectations in every way. Perfect location and friendly staff keep us coming back every time we visit Universal Studios. We always appreciate Robert and Javier being so kind and helpful. We have gotten a chance to get to know them over the course of multiple visits, they always remember us and help make sure our stay is more enjoyable.

United StatesThe only negative I can think of is we were gone all day and room service didn’t show up until 4pm right when we got back from a long day so we didn’t want to leave again to have the room cleaned. He did give us some fresh towels so that was nice!!
Location was great! we stayed on the newer side so it was a lot more modern which we loved. The room was clean and the beds were awesome!

United StatesI could not say enough amazing things about the staff and the service at El Royale Hotel. I, unfortunately, was not feeling well and the staff and manager (Robert) really went beyond in assuring that I felt comfortable and taken care of my entire time there. They brought me provisions, did my laundry, replaced my hair dryer, allowed me to extend my stay an extra night and were just generally insanely thoughtful. I would highly recommend staying at the El Royale to anyone looking for a hidden gem in Studio City.

United StatesI didn't like that we only got to spend 2 nights there, before we had to fly home. Zero complaints.
TLDR: THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! With the price compared to everything else, I was a little hesitant, until we got there. The quantity of spaces was small, not a lot of traffic. Each room has it's own covered parking. We were shown two different rooms, given the choice which one we wanted. There is a gate for extra security. The staff was amazing! Xavier is great! Really enjoyed visiting with him. It's more like a cluster of villas than a motel. Built in 1930's (I think), but the rooms are immaculate and updated. The ac blows cold, and the beds are comfy. The showers were huge! The whole place is covered in huge rose bushes and flowers. You almost can't tell your in LA. Universal studios is easily within walking distance, and a cheap Uber ride home after a long day.
