The condition of the room and building. Paint was peeling of the walls and cabinets. Furniture was in bad shape too. Bed was springy.

No ac would be bad in summer and no elevators make travelling with big bags a little difficult

We loved that the security guard carried our bags to the room; appreciated the friendly check in staff. We liked its retro vibe and authentic identity.

Not having WIFI in room. But it was only for 1 night. The password for room did not work. Since no air, left window open. Loud buzz from other hotel. Not sure where it was coming from but it was bearable. Would have been less if on higher floor but that would mean we would have to lug our suitcases up flights of stairs and at 72 years old, kinda difficult.

First floor was ideal since we had luggage.

The staff that checked us in were not very friendly, and I had to wait 15+ minutes for them to finish up on a phone call before they were able to check us in

check-in desk/lobby environment was a bit uninviting, security was a bit iffy inside and outside the building, room door only had a doorknob lock, no extra locks/protection to outside folks

We were given a room on the third floor and there are no elevators available. It was difficult for my wife who has a knee problem to climb the stairs.

More than 2 glasses, cups, plates, utensils etc. would be nice, so we wouldn't have to wash them so often. The building and contents needs some serious updating, but is kept clean.

On Banyan Drive. A great location to walk the bay and parks. Close to some restaurants. Comfortable beds. An electric frying pan and the microwave were handy to make simple meals. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Umbrellas were available to use.

As mentioned earlier, the building is old and the inside could use a remodel.

The Hilo Reeds Bay Hotel is an old hotel and could use some updates, but it is freshly painted and the rooms are clean. Five minutes to the airport and exceptionally affordable. The people who work there are friendly and accommodating.

Be aware that there is no air conditioning and there is no elevator. These facts are clearly stated at booking. For me, this wasn’t a problem.

The setting is beautiful - overlooking the Bay and swimming pool was inviting. The staff was very pleasant and helpful especially with helping me park the huge truck that Dollar RAC gave me. I appreciated the parking attendant giving me pointers on where to park that huge truck.

No plug in close to the bed. Had shampoo but no conditioner.

Close enough to the ocean I could hear and see waves with the windows open. Very friendly staff. They did their best to get us a room where we could see and hear the ocean. Security patrolling during the night. Lots of clean towels, etc. Quick drive from airport. Restaurants close by.

We requested a room with a view of the bay and generally, were satisfied with the view from our room, although the other room looked out over a cyclone fence and a waste disposal area as well as the bay. The photos on the web page must have been taken twenty years ago, the rooms were considerably run-down, ripped couch covers, missing utensils, generally not very clean, although the bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The wi-fi DOES NOT Work in the rooms. If you enjoy being under the flight path of the airport, this is the place for you. Very limited parking after 5 PM.

The staff was very friendly, and the night security guard was quite helpful in trying to find a parking space for us. Our room on the first floor had a great view of the bay if you didn't stand up to see the cyclone fencing around the pool. As promised on the web page, a huge cruise liner pulled up just a stone's throw from our room and there was a lot of shipping activity.

It was a VERY noisy hotel during the night, from 11pm thru to the early morning. Security was not concerned when we reported this. So if you do not mind getting by on a couple hours of sleep this could be a good choice for you as it seems the hotel does not have quite hours. The hotel is old but kept very clean.

Location was very good and the staff excellent with the exception of Night security.
