How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Honomu has NO restaurants. If you want to go to a restaurant, it's to Hilo about 11 miles away. The bakery next door offers tremendous baked goods and homemade jellies. We bought several. We did not make it to the general store just down the street.
Quaint. Not your run of the mill hotel. More like a B&B. Our room was very comfortable, clean, and had a deck! Slept like a baby! Would definitely stay here again.

Not enough toilet tissue and no elevator.
It was nice going downstairs to make coffee, with complimentary bagels and yogurt. The Inn was very nice, clean and birds chirping outside in the mornings! We enjoyed meeting Mr. Ed, owner of Ed's Bakery a few stores down.

We did not like the noise of the keyless entry, and wished there had been local places to have dinner, but that’s not the fault of the accomodation!
The hosts did not live at the property, but there was a mini kitchen provided for guests that had a very well stocked continental breakfast. The room was spacious and nicely decorated, the bed was very comfortable, there was seating for two for relaxation, and the bathroom was very clean, and nicely put together.

Furniture (table and chairs) on the lanai of room 5 would have been nice so we could sit outside and enjoy our breakfast. There wasn't seating for two inside the room
The location was great, close to Hilo and a few minutes away from Akaka Falls. The town of Honomu is very cute, the Inn is located on the strips with a few eateries, coffee shop and bakery. Communication from the staff was excellent before and during our stay. We had room 5 and it was quiet. Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was good. There was an abundance of electrical outlets in our room

cell phone connectivity in Honomu is not that great, download the instructions to enter the hotel before you arrive

What a great place to stay! Cody was such a wonderful host, giving us suggestions on things we had to see and the best way to go about it. The hotel room was clean and updated beautifully. The location was perfect for us. In the countryside, outside the busy Hilo city but still close to all the adventures we went on. Cute shops, bakeries and cafes all right beside the hotel. We definitely will be staying here again!

The Wi-Fi was not working well. Apparently the issue was the system provider’s probelm
Nicely assembled accommodations, comfortable, beautifully modeled with contemporary bath and bedroom features. Kitchen setup well for light continental breakfast. Good instructions.

We stayed in room 2. It was comfortable and air conditioned. Balcony view of the street. Quiet residential town; close to Akaka Falls. Most store fronts on the street are only open on the weekends, but Mr. Ed’s Bakery was open during the week; we stopped in the bakery in both the morning and late afternoon. The Inn had a small kitchenette in the lobby with complimentary breakfast that you prepare yourself (bagels and coffee, etc.). A lot of reviews mentioned the noisy frogs outside--it was not a problem. In fact, I didn’t even notice the noise at first. I would stay there again.

The rooms looked a little more spacious, decorated, and comfy in the photos, and we thought the other reviews slightly exaggerated the quality. All good, it's quiet and comfortable and cozy, with a nice modern bathroom too. But it's simple and rustic; however, very fair value for the price (not over-priced, which is welcome given Hawaii's prices).
Cozy inn with responsive hosts, in a nice quiet town. The Hive Cafe nearby was very good, plus the inn offers basic breakfast and coffee. Very close to beautiful Akaka Falls.
