Fire alarm in adjacent building went off at night, but that is no fault of the hostel! :) Comes with visiting the city.

Needed to be on campus early, this is the perfect place to stay. Last visit was 10 years ago and it's still great, though some new apartment buildings have been built up around it.

The plumbing makes a lot of noise when toilets are flushed which can be heard in the dorm.

This is a great old school hostel like the ones from 20 years ago (that I love) and run by a local family. The building is charming old style with no aircon and a cute patio in a quiet area near the university. Good prices washing machines.

The access to wash and able to hang my clothes up to be dried by fresh air. The internet access and the friendliness from the staff.

This place made me feel at peace with the surroundings, the different people I met from different countries, and the staff we above to make everyone feel comfortable. I felt very safe there.

refrigerator was out-of-order during my stay; loud toilet flush (same at UHManoa!); custom to remove footwear indoors extended to shared bathroom where there could be risk of picking up infection from any of 7 roommates (workaround to apply sanitizer on barefeet)

super convenient location as I was attending conference held at UHManoa Campus Center (2 blocks away) & Hawaii Convention Center (30 min. walk); many bus lines nearby (connect to TheBus #20 airport); walking distance to great restaurants & shops on Waialae & Kapahulu Avenues; home-like hostel, owned & operated by caring Hawaiian family (mahalo nui loa to sisters Joanna & Sue, whose parents started hostel); spacious outdoor spaces + free clothesline; jalousie & screen windows that invite cool air for natural ventilation; exceptionally clean; plush 100% cotton towels!

I had a great stay! Shu, her sister and her husband are the best! They are very kind and helpful. The bedroom and the bathroom were spotless. There’s a beautiful garden around the hostel. They care a lot, and it’s a safe place. Near the hostel are different bus lines for all directions. The other guests were amazing.

Great place to stay for married or single travelers. The woman who runs it with her sister just asks that simple rules are followed. There is a bus station and Uber pickup nearby. My room had three bunk beds and one single bed in room #3. The bathroom is upstairs and has two stalls with toilets, and there are two sinks in the bathroom. There is a kitchen where food can be cooked and water boiled. The kitchen is only opened at a certain time. Each day the bathroom is cleaned, it is also closed until cleaned. Once the bathroom is cleaned, a new password is issued so you can get it in the main door.

It would be nice to have more electrical outlets in the dorms to charge phones.

Family run hostel. Quiet and comfortable. Great value for the price. I was so worried that they would not be able to reopen after covid. I'm so glad they did! We have been coming to this hostel every few years for the last 20+ years. There's a cafeteria at the university across the street that serves breakfast and lunch on weekdays with very reasonable prices. Also a Subway and Starbucks at the university open weekdays only.

people coming and going at all hours, your sleep can be disrupted by others talking in the sleeping area, sometimes the lights are on or off at odd hours. A separate lounge area would be useful.

staff are lovely, kitchen is communal so sharing fridge and stove, value for money and sharing stories with world travelers Sharing of information of things to do , and places to go away from your beach tourist, but a bus hop away if you want to visit Waikiki shady areas for eating and hanging out.
