Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceIf I had to point out something it might maybe that there were no lamps next to the bed but that’s only a detail. Very cool place !
The atmosphere of the place was exactly what I was expecting from New Orleans. An old mansion inhabited by travelers, artists, oddities, art of all kind and overall very nice and easygoing people.

United StatesVery basic furniture, only a bed and small table. When it was raining some water came into the room we stayed in.
Easy to reach by street car, private bathroom, cute cat. Staff is very friendly and can give recommendations on what to do in the city.

United StatesFrom the moment we arrived, all of the staff at the desk (and purring on the comfy chairs) were incredibly friendly and helpful. The main house is eclectic and fun, and the kitchen and dining area are very clean, and the separate house we were in had a very clean bathroom which was maintained throughout the stay.

CanadaWe had 2 separate stays at India House in a private room with shared a shared bathroom. The first room was amazing, it was large and spacious. There were some loose floorboards in the room but nothing that you would be tripping over or falling into. The shared bathrooms in the first location were not dorm style at all, the shower and toilet were in individual rooms with locking doors. During the second stay, we were put in the adjacent house to the check-in. It was also a private room with a shared bathroom. This was a much smaller and darker room only being illuminated by a singular incandescent light bulb, there was a portable heater to keep the room warm which worked well. The shared bathrooms were more dormitory style in this location, the shower and toilet were in the same room and anyone can access them at any time. There are locking doors for the shower and toilet, so it's not just a curtain. Unfortunately, when we woke up on our 2nd night, we had no light in our room at all. We assumed the lightbulb had blown and notified the front desk. We went on our way to do some sightseeing and when we got back, we were told to go to the front desk. There was an electrical issue with the room so we were upgraded and moved for our last night at the hostel into a private room with a private ensuite bathroom. This was a great experience, the staff were very apologetic about the situation. The last room was spacious and we had a bunk bed this time. The bottom was a double while the top was a single which worked out well for us. It had been a while since my travel partner and I had bunk beds so it was a fun novelty during this trip. I will definitely stay at India House Hostel again. The location is prime since you will not be stuck in the downtown core and have other opportunities to explore. We walked up to City Park from the hostel and it was a fun little adventure. The street car stops outside the hostel and it was very convenient to get downtown.

AustraliaThere wasn't too much of interest within walking distance of the hostel, but the streetcar was useful to get to the French Quarter cheaply. Room was basic, but was one of the only reasonably-priced properties in New Orleans over a weekend.
Staff were welcoming and gave a brief tour of the facilities on arrival, which include a swimming pool and 24hr coffee. Location was a one block walk from the streetcar that will take you to the French Quarter. Staff are able to arrange an airport transfer for $30.

SpainIt was an unusual cold weekend and the room was absolutely freezing when we got there which made it really hard to sleep. We had a space heater but it took for ever to heat up the room. This is very silly, but as a recommendation: installing hooks in the shower to be able to put the towel somewhere. very cheap solution that would make the guest happy!
Location was great! Staff is super friendly and helpful! Beds were very comfortable and slept quite well! we stayed in the 4 bed dorm with private bathroom and it was perfect for our party of four girls!

Switzerlandl needed assistance for an urgent matter because as non-US I could not do it on my own. the staff wasn't able to assist. when backpacking for several months, you always go through challenging times and your hostel is "your home". so, did not feel "at home".
the atmosphere was good and the equipments were minimum but exactly what you needed.

DenmarkThe double bed was too short, so sleeping on the 1st 'floor' was difficult for me being taller. The room was large but the building in general was old. Needs some renovation. Parking is too small and might be difficult to find a spot. So, then parking somewhere on the street. Caught some cockroaches... The garden outside the house was full of people always and noisy. Difficult to relax. The hostel is quite far from the oldtown.
I stayed in a private room, which was one of the hostel's rooms with 2 doble beds. The hostel seemed like someone's home, who invites people to stay in it. Quite nice and cozy :) The staff was very friendly and helpful. So, this made the stay comfortable. There was a kitchen to make some food. Surprisingly, the bathroom on the 2nd floor was clean :) The house was full of people, nice and strange...

United StatesA bit grubby all around; needs more deep cleaning and overall upkeep. At night the location off Canal St can feel a bit dodgy if on foot. Not enough blankets for chilly weather.
Location is excellent for touring the city and environs using public transit and walking. Main room is nice for hanging out and meeting people. (Coffee is great.) Outside tables nice for eating and winding down. Reception offers lots of advice for travelers. Kitchen is full-fledged and well organized and great for long stay frugal travelers. Private room is private when you need that. Has all that you need.

CanadaSomes details like we didn't have garbage in the Room, miss some Little things like hooks for towel or night table but nothing big.
We stayed there 5 days, changing rooms 2 Times because I made differents reservations. First room was confortable, but smelling bad. Second room was Near the common toilet... Noisy. Last Room was way better. Staff is really nice, this is a good place to stay. It's used, but it's clean. If you see in comments that the swimming pool is dirty, it looks dirty but was actualy clean. They change it while we were there so now it's new and very clean. It's the only hostel in NO that have a swimming pool. Very Near the street car so it's useful. We enjoyed our stay even if it wasn't perfect, it's quite a good place with a good vibe!

IrelandThere was nothing we didn't like...really loved our time here!
We've been travelling for 3 months and this hostel was definitely the best hostel we've stayed in. Rooms are basic but the beds are very comfy and we slept so well! The pool was brilliant to have and we loved spending some time there relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. The free coffee/tea as well as the (delicious) $7 meals that were offered meant we saved a lot of money by staying here. They also had free sun cream from time to time. The street car is literally 30 second walk away and takes you straight to the French Quarter and the cemeteries in 10 mins. I would highly recommend staying here.
