I booked three nights on booking.com and then extended the stay for another three nights at the hotel. I later noticed that the rate charged on extension was significantly higher than the rate offered by booking.com for the same room on the same days. Therefore, I would recommend booking this hotel via booking.com instead of a direct booking. Other than this, I found the hotel to be exceptional and charming.

The hotel has a wonderful old-world ambience but has all the modern amenities. It is possibly the only hotel located inside the ISU campustown with everything conveniently reachable in walking distance. The rooms and bed are exceptionally clean and very comfortable, and the large windows provide wonderful views of the serene neighborhood. I also suspect that the hot breakfast served here (with eggs made to order) is possibly the best in Ames. Staff at the breakfast table are friendly and accommodating.

Entering with a code always leaves me nervous… what if it does not work? This time, it only worked in one of the two available doors to enter the building.

Nice to stay in a cozy home rather than a conventional chain hotel, and close to ISU campus. Nice decor, excellent room, well equipped.

The only thing is that we were in room 101 which is beautiful and we loved it. However there is no room number label so it took us a while to find it. They left a floor plan, but we were too stressed and cold from our drive to figure it out, so this is probably on us.

Our son is a freshman at Iowa State and we stayed here once before on a visit and loved it. This time we stayed was during a huge snow storm and the temps were -10. This added hours on to our drive from Chicago. When we got there we were beyond stressed. This place was the perfect way to relax. We brought a bottle of wine with us and found the little common room in the basement with the comfy couch and big screen TV and that's where we stayed under a warm blanket. That sure beats the sterile rooms and halls of a regular hotel. This was exactly what we needed to de-stress and prepare for the next day's drive.

The breakfast is a little bit "small", no bread available...but a fresh special dish if offered each day.

Staff treats you like an individual, not just a number. The site feels very homey and like 'an experience'. The location is ideal for both ISU related visitors and non-alike. Breakfast is always a treat and the fully stocked snack counter is an added bonus.

The bed was a little soft and it might be nice to have more than one type of pillow option (a thicker one and a thinner one), but really, this is just my preference. I can easily overlook these, though, and would 100% stay there again.

I reserved a room with two beds and I would have preferred that they were together on the same level vs the one being up in the loft area. The only access was a spiral staircase.

Excellent breakfast, Great location, Comfortable beds, Cozy room for all four guests. We stayed here to attend a funeral and wanted to checkout this B&B for future stays, being our oldest grandson will be attending Iowa State this Fall. This will be our first choice for booking a room in the future years.

hard to say what I didn't like. The furnishings and amenities are well done.

The facility keeps coffee and snacks out for guests throughout the day, very nice if you happen to get in late or come down late for breakfast. The location of the home is exception, a nice walk to the downtown. Safe and clean neighborhood. The room is well furnished, clean and spacious bathroom.

There isn't an elevator, which was ok for us but good to know.

Great breakfast (French toast and either sausage or eggs), fruit, coffee, juice, and other options available (cereal, muffins, oatmeal, bars, etc). The bed was really comfortable and the location was quiet. Walkable to campus. Nice outside sitting area.

Carpet was a little mangy/dirty looking, but no big deal. The room fridge was in the bathroom, just a bit off setting and weird. The lock on the door was strange and i wasn't certain it locked.

The kitchen area was great accommodation. The loft in the room was nice. The location was great for Iowa Sate campus. Easy to access. Friendly.
