Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesDead phone (could not be repaired) Did not service room, even when requested Hallways depressing, looks like grey dorm or prison Ultra-simple breakfast, whose 7am opening was too late to be useful to me Thin bath towels, no bath mats Thin toilet paper No computer for guests to check-in for flights and print boarding passes Noisy trains (at least 4 tooting horns at night) Noisy neighbors (thin walls) Next door Chicken & Waffles restaurant closed since January. Tight parking inside

GermanyLoud train driving by day and night. The train honks all the time (why?), I'm not used to that and it did disturb my sleep. Also, the other receptionist (forgot her name, an African-American woman) was a bit rude when I asked about the deposit. Not a big deal, though. Neighborhood is a bit run-down and feels a bit sketchy, one receptionist recommended being careful at night after 11pm (before there's police around he said).
Nice beds, one receptionist (forgot his name, Asian-American man) was friendly and helpful, decent room

CanadaThe hotel is old and is in need of updating. It is also not located in a good part of town. We were told many times of the risk of theft. There should be additional security measures for the parking garage. As a result we had to empty our vehicle completely for only 1 night stay.
The room was great - it was clean and had all facilities we needed for our stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

United StatesI didn’t like because I didn’t have a bout up the other side of the hotel with the bathtubs without a commission with no air conditioner in I found two roaches in my room. I killed one and one went down the sink with water they need to clean out their rooms, real good and sanitize it. They overcharged me twice when I paid for my room to priceline. No, it’s hard for me to get my money back.
I really didn’t like too much of nothing about the wrong but it had a smell to it the room was all right, but it had a smell. I had spray perfume to get the smell out in open windows.

United StatesThe mattress was broken down and should be replaced. one of the inside panes of the windows had big cracks and should be replaced.
Breakfast is a cruel hoax. A paper bag with a granola bar, etc and coffee is hardly a breakfast. But considering the room rate one cannot hope for much more.

United StatesIt was a nice place. The only thing I would say is that housekeeping needs to pay more intention to cleanliness. My carpet had a big red stain that was very sticky the carpet room in general was sticky. There were drawings on the furniture looks like from whiteout. A couple of the knobs from the drawers and Hutch are missing. Just a few detailed things in the rooms that need attention ASAP.
It was right across the street from London Square the staff was very nice. It's a beautiful place to walk around a bunch of places to get a quick bite to eat.

United States1st night roaches in the room , told the staff & it's nothing to do about it. Prostitutes everywhere. Couldn't sleep due to others fighting all night & no security. Blood and vomit throughout the hallway. Rest of the week we had to constantly get our key reset , ask for towels & toiletries. The soap in the shower was clearly used and left empty... Blood stains on the heater & burnt curtains. Outlets only works in the bathroom. Hallway have a foul smell especially on weekends. The room was filthy and definitely not ment for a weekly stay.
The location is good . The staff is okay they do the job at least. Cheap hotel for a reason

United StatesThe first night we were in a room with a broken heating system and no access to a fridge, even though both were listed as commodities on booking.com. Originally I was planning on staying the duration of my trip, which I used free cancellation to do so the week prior, since I found free lodging through a non-profit here in Oakland. Had I gone through with recovering for a week at this place, I don't know if my recovery would be as comfortable. The walls were paper thin also, and the first night there was a group of people partying down the hall and neither my mom nor I could sleep well. The train track outside at least has some charm to it. The continental breakfast was just a yogurt, muffin, granola bar, and juice box, which I'm not at all above, but again, mentioning this on the website would probably reduce folks' expectations.
The room was still affordable and cheap despite the last minute booking, which was a lifesaver to my pocket since I'm on a medical trip. The place was exactly as I expected it to be, rundown, dive-y and smelling like cigarette smoke, which I don't mind at all. (I'm from Reno.) Overall I'd say the Jack London Inn is a great place to stay for anyone who's just passing through or will be spending most of their time checking out the cities. I thought being by the train was super cool but I can understand why some people would be annoyed and it should probably be mentioned in the online listing.

United StatesThe bed mattress was more or less collapsed so I had to find a comfortable spot.
The location is superior for access to the ferry dock and nearby restaurants on Jack London Sq. I personally like to see and hear the trains so that is an added plus for me.
