How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Laundry is expensive - but you can just go to a nearby laundromat instead if you like.
Fabulous location, really stylish hotel (if you like old fashioned, which I do!). Lovely reception, which is a nice place to chill in the evening and enjoy the free sherry on offer! What what!

The bathroom is getting old and tired. Door squeeks.

Excellent location just around the corner from Union Square (1 block) and Powell Street cable car start (turn around 2 blocks). China town was a 15/20 minute walk. The rooms were clean and comfortable

Noise from the street if you have the windows open .

Very dated and old which makes it appear dirty. Would be nice to have a casual bar and restaurant in the hotel. There is a high end restaurant next door. No breakfast options except cookies, tea and coffee. ☹️

Shower water heater not consistent. Room lights dim. Not many choices of eating places nearby.
Location near to Bart, Metro stations and bus stops. Front counter staff Amy was very helpful.

It was not possible to cast/stream from the phone to the TV. No big deal, but a nice to have.
Great hotel, the building has character. The room was spacious, quite enough, and fully equipped (e.g. safe, iron board, coffee machine, alarm, TV, etc.). The bed was comfortable. They even provided complementary coffee and biscuits every morning at the lobby. There was free filtered water at a dedicate station in the lobby too. Very nice location, walking distance to public transport, malls and many restaurants.

The hotel needs a lot of repairs (for example the windows were very old and they had to change the safe in the room cuz it was old and didn’t work anymore). The Valet parking takes ages till they bring your car (the fastet time is got my car was in 20 minutes)
Location was cool and the hotel itself had a nice design

I noticed there was no air co. We were travelling in the winter, so no need for it, but I can imagine it can get pretty hot during summer.

One of the 2 lifts wasn't working for 3 days of our stay.
Good location, almost on Union Square with all its' upmarket shops. Friendly, obliging staff. Quirky hotel - there's a theatre on 2nd floor and some society called Elks Lodge have a huge presence / history here. Comfortable lounge / reception area where they serve complimentary sherry each afternoon and coffee / biscuits each morning. A nice touch. Generous size bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and very nice bathroom with plush towels and toiletries.

Broken lifts. Decor needs refreshing. Lack of breakfast availability

No parking at the hotel. Valet parking is offered but it’s very expensive. We returned our hire car and used public transport instead.
Great location by Union Square. Easy access to public transport, shopping and restaurants. The room was spacious, clean and well equipped. Coffee was served in the lobby every morning.

The location, one-half block from Union Square, is perfect. It is an older hotel, but well kept and with an excellent staff. The rooms and bathrooms are sizeable and comfortable, with excellent beds. The staff is knowledgeable, warm and friendly. This is an excellent choice.
